covering shipping costs?

I don't remember where I saw it but I read that you can use up to $15 from money your buyer has paid before the funds are released to you in order to cover or help cover the shipping costs. But how do you do that though?

Re: covering shipping costs?

I don't know about the $15 limit, it sounds low considering the cost of shipping by Canada Post and couriers are even higher.

However, go to the customer's Paypal payment.

Click on Payment From John Q Doe.

This will take you to the Transaction Details.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Print Shipping Label.

You have to choose the service next and enter some dimensions etc.

LetterPost is not available.

Your item is 'Other" not Documents /Sample/ Gift

The code (I forget the name) is available on the CBSA website. Just enter the name of the code. (Sorry not to be more helpful - the senior moment collided with the blonde moments)

You don't have to print a sample. You might as a learning experience.

Click to print.

If you have any problems come back here.
Take your time. You can't put it in the mail until Monday anyway.

Re: covering shipping costs?

I've read that too but what I can tell you is that it never worked that way for me. Until I had been selling here long enough that the funds from the buyer were immediately available following purchase, the cost of postage was being drawn from my bank account. Annoying, to be sure.

If your item is being shipped internationally, you'll probably want a tracked service so that you aren't setting yourself up for failure as result of an Item Not Received claim or defect from 'late shipment' . As the seller, you need Proof of Delivery, not just Proof of Shipment.

On the Customs form, it's Pother - MERCHANDISE and the HS Code can be found at https://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/wtz/personal/findHsCode?execution=e1s1

Best of luck to you as you go forward.
