eBay Picture Catalogue

Hi All,

I remember reading that if we DIDN'T opt of of this...that our photos would be incorporated into eBay's picture catalogue and then anyone could use them.

My question is this...where is this picture catalogue?

Any information would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Susan

Hi Pierre,

Thanks for providing the link. I did go and read the information there but am still confused as to where the catalogue is!

Does it only appear when someone is listing an item that they have a photo for when listing directly through eBay...or is there a catalogue that one can look through?

Curious.

I don't know a lot about this, but I do know that, once your pictures are in the catalog, other sellers may NOT use them.

The rights that you're giving away only allow ebay to use the picture in its advertising.

I believe this is incorrect. You're allowing eBay to let other sellers use your photos. Similar to stock photos for DVD's, CD's etc. The entire point of the catalogue is to let other sellers use the photos for their listings. I'm fairly certain you've got it wrong Surplus.

I think Jakeeangel is right. Thanks for the link Pierre but I don't think it answers the specific question about opting out. I certainly do not want to share my photos. I spend hours on my scans!

Ditto! I prefer my photos staying my photos! That's why I would really like to take a look at this catalogue but don't have a clue where it is!

I don't think it's anywhere that they can point a link to rather than perhaps a selection of pictures that you can use when you go to list an item. I'm not entirely sure but I don't think it's something like an online photo album or anything like that that we can just flip through.

One of the board members asked one of the pinks about this - there was a tremendous commotion about it when it was announced.

The pink was very clear that the permission was ONLY for ebay to use the pictures for advertising, not for the other sellers to use it.

I'm absolutely sure about this, but some of you might want to ask the pinks if and when they show up again (they all seem to have disappeared again)

" if and when they show up again"

I believe it is very important to watermark your images if you want to protect them. Sure copy-cats can crop and manipulate these watermarked photos, but it certainly will discourage them and leave them with less than perfect pics.

All of my photos are uploaded to and hosted by Auctiva. Then I watermark everything using Auctiva. (Another good reason why its worth it for me to pay them 9.95 a month.) 😉

Suzan, this does not seem right. Your photos are your property and nobody can make them their property for you not opting-out or their change of policy. You have to consciously agree or opt-in.

If this was possible, who would stop me to send letters to all home-owners in Ontario saying, if they do not respond and opt-out of the agreement in the letter within 30 days, their house becomes mine.

Does not work like that. Maybe in feudal Europe ages ago.

The images may be used by eBay on "product pages" other individual sellers do not have any direct access.

In order for something to have a "product page" it needs to be a new commodity type item like a DVD, Book, Cell Phone etc.

A product page looks like this

Hi recped,

FIRST...WELCOME BACK! Glad the *see* you once again!

SECOND....Thank you for the link and the information! I don't think my pics will ever be used for these product pages! And, I'm glad that individual sellers may not use my photos as they wish.

This clarified all for me!
