To the best of my knowledge, there is absolutely no way to hide a purchase from your husband. Goodness knows, many have tried. (Ha hah ha.)
An ebay purchase will expire on its own after 60 days from the feedback prompts BUT your seller is probably going to leave you feedback after payment saying 'Thanks for paying so fast! Your new gold clubs are on the way!' and that doesn't really help right now. You could try hiding the purchase in Archived right after payment but it will still be there if he looks. To do that, click the box to the left of the item and then hit the Archive button above it.
If you really want to be sneaky and ensure a surprise, you'd have to open your own account or try to checkout as a guest. Plus, I'd advise you to tell your seller not to write all over the box because it is a surprise. International Customs forms can sometimes be completed more specifically than required if the seller doesn't quite know how to categorize as opposed to stating the exact item.
Good luck! Happy holiday shopping.
