inflated shipping rates

I am both a buyer and seller and use the posted shipping rates for the article without adding anything extra. Some shipping rates on listings are obviously and ridiculously inflated. If all sellers didn't try to make money on the shipping rate, then possibly eBay would not charge commission on shipping. They have told me more than once that this is the reason they charge commission on shipping.

inflated shipping rates

Hello all

I have a situation as well.....

We bought 3 magazines from a seller in Canada. We asked for combined shipping rates on 3 ,he came back with 25.00 .

I responded with can you go any lower,he responded with this is for express shipping as this is the only way he would ship.

Ok if that is how  he ships express.

We received the package and he paid 12.93 and it was for expedited not express.

I contact him regarding the overcharge this was the response

my time,my gas,my packaging ,my fees ????

I responded with the bottom line is we paid for express and you shipped expedited for a difference of 12.00.

I also stated that if you were going to inflate your shipping charges due to gas etc.etc. it should be stated in your description.

We do not add any fees to our items and we are incorrect we always refund.

Just venting before I leave feedback.

That's one reason, but it also creates a level playing field for sellers offering "free" shipping.  Without seller fees being charged on shipping, a seller charging $10 for shipping a $50 item would pay less in fees than a seller charging $60 for the same item with "free" shipping.

Just venting before I leave feedback.

Remember that the most effective feedback is calm and factual. "Charged $25express shipping, used $12expedited No refund" for example.

Technically, we sellers are allowed to add 'handling' charges to shipping cost, but most actually make these costs part of the asking price instead.
