marking items with ultraviolet sensitive ink

Hello fellow members...

I've noticed that some sellers mark their items with ultraviolet - sensitive ink because of past experiences where the buyer has swapped a damaged item for one which a seller sent and then claimed it arrived damaged. I noticed that the sellers also mentioned on their listing that the item is marked. Is this notification necessary? Couldn't the buyer, after being alerted to this fact, mark his damaged item in exactly the same spot and try to say it's the one that the seller sent? Is there an ebay policy that addresses whether marked items must be announced prior to shipping?

Many thanks,

Gordon

My previous employer looked at a lot of this stuff. The security cost more than the loss, and, the losses kept happening anyway.

My personal favourite of "Waste My Time" is the one over on Seller Central dot com. It is where the wannabe seller says they will take a video of themselves putting the $20 widget in a box and keep the tape for "proof".

Proof of what? That ya have a video of something?

Sell, ship, forget about it. That is my security system. It works very well.

Good morning...

Thanks for your reply. Canada Post does insure for loss but excludes glass objects and a few other types from damage

insurance. UPS does insure for breakage but usually wants to package the item themselves to be sure its packaged to breakage standards and is not broken before they process it.

I'll check out my return policy - it does sound like I need to modify it. Thanks for pointing this out.
