I'm looking at a piece of jewelry right now and the shipping cost is outrageous. It's light and small and the seller is charging 39$ . Seems excessive. It's not even real silver. How can they do this? frustrated.

You could contact seller, point out shipping cost and ask if they can send using a more reasonable priced shipping method. If seller won't change to a more reasonable cost then browse to find a seller who will. I have found many USA sellers who do not use this GSP. I have 200.00 worth of vintage jewelry that send via the old way. I pay duty to my post office in town. Good luck! Ace

The seller can charge anything he likes for shipping or for his product.
The buyer can laugh and laugh and move on to another product that is more reasonable priced.

Ace- do you mean you pay duty on the jewelry you import at the PO counter? Because the seller/exporter does not and with a very few exceptions cannot pay duty for his buyers/ importers.
The exceptions include PitneyBowes and other large exporters like LL Bean etc. I don't want to get into why they can collect duty for the Canadian government because it drives some rageaholics batty.
