Just wondering if tracked packet is available to everyone now. I have yet to see the option show on any item I have shipped. I have not really wanted it until this latest parcel, Can anyone say for sure if the dimensions requirments are the same as the small packet maximums?

Hi I have tracked packet system up BUT tracked packet USA is not working properly-had an item that was 26 cm x 22 cm x10 cm and weighs .212 kg. cost kicks out at $16.78-with our discount of 14% actual cost should be $14.00-you can put in .55 kg,.99 kg. and it still comes out $16.78-have made repeated calls to ebay, paypal and canada post and not one idiot can correct or admit there is a problem-I cannot be the only one having this problem-had to ship at the post office the old manual way and took a shipping loss so beware on quoting shipping using this method-if others are having this problem please lodge a complaint-I believe there is a problem with paypal programming-canada post list standards for shipping in mm and grams but when shipping it is in cm & kg-cannot get it in the heads of the people i am talking to-I am off for the next two weeks as we are headed to the Dominican-PLEASE COMPLAIN IF YOU ARE USING THIS SYSTEM WITH THE SAME RESULTS-by the way you are restricted to 60 cm-L+W+H for this system to the U.S. Don

expensive because it is calculating incorrectly-but yes expensive compared to old system.
04-15-2013 08:35 PM
have not be cleared up-you are overpaying for any items under .75 kg.
04-15-2013 08:42 PM
You need to complain to paypal-read my other entries-I used .25 kg, .55kg and .9 kg and they all come out $16.78. Program is NFG.

Tracked packet USA is limited to 1 kg. and 60 cm. L+W+H.
04-15-2013 08:48 PM
14 % off that price should be $14.00 give or take a penny.

The PayPal calculator is using Dimensional weight when it should not.
DW = L x W x H / 6000 with result in kg
Only Expedited Parcel and Xpresspost are supposed to use DW to override the actual eight.
The dimensions entered should allow up to 90 cm (60 max on L) but it is not working. It seems to cut off at 60 cm total. However, I cannot get 29 x 15 x 15 to work on PayPal ShipNow when testing.
Also if I use the Tracked Packet option a few times then it says invalid option. I have to choose select service and go to the next page and it refuses because no service selected and this resets the tracked Packet option to be selected again.
Absolutely horrible programming job by PayPal. Horrible.

The correct TP USA rates when I use the PayPal ShipNow
250 grams $15.39 - $1.46 = $13.93
500 grams $16.03 - $1.52 = $14.51
1000 grams $18.53 - $1.75 = $16.78
Now I tricked the system into working properly by using a set of dimensions that was under 250 grams dimensional weight.
I used 30 x 10 x 5 cm dimensions which calculates to a DW of 250 grams.
Now you could possible use the same trick to stop the DW override for sending real packages.Use the set of dimensions that work above but put in the real weight. Then the TP options will come up correctly based on the real weight.
However, since this is a Canada Post barcoded service, I do not know if it checks the false dimensions versus the real dimensions when scanned by Canada Post during delivery. I would think not but I cannot recommend using this trick to make the PayPal Tracked Packet option work.

I did not receive any reply from Kalvin at ebay.com as of now. No acknowledgement of receiving the problem either. I will email again to ask if the email was received.

I received a reply from Kalvin at eBay.com this morning saying they will look into the Tracked Packet issue.
Hopefully this will help get the issue resolved along with the complaints directly to eBay and PayPal support by other eBayers.

I tried to use Tracked Packet today through eBay/Paypal, and wow was the site "twitchy". Twice I received a message saying "Sorry, CP labels not available", and finally I managed to get to the label function by using different routes.
Figures for the shipping costs were appearing and disappearing after I chose a service from the drop-down list (I often put in the parcel dimensions & weight, then compare the price of 2 or 3 service types before making a final choice).
My parcel was 36x30x5cm, 850gm, and on choosing TP from the drop-down list, I got an error message. I finally chose Expedited and it went through -- but slowlyyyyyy... I was thinking that any moment they'd debit my Paypal account for the shipping but the site would crash before I could print my label.
Maybe Paypal was working on the site today. It was really pretty bad!

To toff:
I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use Canada Post's calulator to get any information as they are not relliable and that is their loss as I don't use their service to purchase any shipping labels. I use PayPal Shipping. Yes Expedited is much cheaper than Tracked Packet for some states.
I understand with Tracked Packet for USA, we can ship any items to any states for one same postage rates but not with Expedited, but in some cases, Expedited is more cheaper Tracked Packet and very limited up to 1kg. With Expedited I can go over 1kg and much cheaper than Tracked Packet which I checked.
I just recently purchased XpressPost for 2 towns in Ontario, they are way much cheaper than Expedited by $1.00 to 2.00 difference. I mean XpressPost costs $1.00 to $2.00 more than Expedited for the same towns and I used XpressPost and bingo, both arrived late 2 days past their on-time guarantee which I get refund for late delivery, way cheaper than Expedited.
I always play with PayPal Shipping before printing the shipping label when I need to ship by Expedited and see how much for XpressPost and too often, they surprised me and I used XpressPost, that is for across Canada.
I honestly don't understand but that is what Canada Post/PayPal Shipping is offering us and I am taking advantage of those when I see way much cheaper with XpressPost like $1.00 to $2.00 difference from Expedited. While with other cities across Canada, it can be double, not making senses, but I am not complaining, I am just glad that I can use XpressPost at any time if the postage rates are fantastic reasonable. And at the same time knowing fully that they will arrive late past their on-time guarantee. Whoever at Canada Post set those postage rates must be not doing their jobs but that is okay, that is Canada Post which not surprising. LOL!
Wish they do that with XpressPost for International, way cheaper that we can use them more often and not having to fret if our packages have arrived there or not or having to fret that we may be duped by those scammers, etc.

Tracked Packet was available yesterday, Thursday April 18. Phenomenal savings of 50¢ over Expedited. Oddly delivery times are longer.
Expedited was 4-8 days, TP 4-15 days. Eh?

"Phenomenal savings of 50¢ over Expedited"
The difference in postage may vary depending where you ship from and where you ship to.
I tested the system earlier with the same small parcel under 1kg shipped to California from
- Halifax
- Toronto
- Vancouver
In the case of Tracked Packet and Small Packet the rates did not vary, regardless of the point of origin or destination (even including Hawaii).
However, the cost of shipping XpressPost or Expedited Parcels were higher (although identical) when shipped from Toronto or Halifax than Vancouver by about $2.
To reach conclusion on what method is best for you, you need to do the calculations based on YOUR location and YOUR destination.

Thanks Pierre. After ten years and 8,000 parcels I never realized that dimensions, weight, from, and to mattered. I digress.

Honeybed,
Sorry, I don't fully understand your post.
Be that as it may, you cannot equate the Canada Post Find-a-Rate calculator with the eBay/PayPal shipping calculator because the latter takes into account discounts that Canada Post does not offer. Nevertheless, the CP calculator is accurate (if it weren't, all hell would break loose).
With Expedited I can go over 1kg and much cheaper than Tracked Packet which I checked.
For parcels weighing over 1 kg to USA, you cannot compare rates for Expedited Parcel and Tracked Packet because TP service is not available.

Pierre's discovery that it's cheaper to send an Xpresspost or Expedited parcel to California from Vancouver than from Toronto or Halifax is hardly earth-shaking. Analogously, it's cheaper to send those parcels to New York State from Toronto or Halifax than from Vancouver.
That's Canada Post's unique zonal pricing system at work. I say unique because, AFAIK, it's the only zonal postal pricing system between two countries in the world.

"Pierre's discovery ... is hardly earth-shaking"
No discovery.
Simply trying to point out to less experienced readers that some information posted here has to be taken in the context of where the poster resides and where the poster ships to.

Perhaps I used the wrong word. Revelation might be better. After all, your finding was a revelation to Inuk....not.
What we should not lose sight of is the fact that this discussion arises from the weird and wonderful world of Canada Post pricing.

Oh please, I'm yanking his chain. He knows that.
I do agree that basic shipping information should be dispensed over and over and over and over. New people don't know, veterans are always learning, shipping keeps changing.
