This is all related to excessive advertising (active content) by eBay which caused the site to freeze up at times or slows down and becomes less responsive.
I was experiencing it on Internet Explorer (and still do...) so I switched to Google Chrome which is much better.
eBay member "poco" recommended installing an adblocker program.
