why was my bid cancelled

I received an email from ebay stating my bid was cancelled. I checked the item and there is a message that the bidding has ended due to unavailability of the item. Now when I bid and win an item, I am held responsible for adhering to the terms for payment. How come a seller that is top rated(!) can cancel a bid? I do not understand this, Can someone explain? Thank you.

Re: why was my bid cancelled

In truth, a seller can cancel any bid for any reason.  That is not how the official policy is stated, but that's about the size of it.  Anyone who does much bidding at all has had an item cancelled early.  Quite often it is when the auction is near the end and the bidding is not very high. 😉  So don't take it personally.  You don't say what the item is, but any number of things could have happened to it, - it broke, seller discovered it doesn't work properly, there is damage the seller didn't notice initially, etc.  Have a look at this link about sellers cancelling.  You don't have to like it, but there it is. 🙂

Re: why was my bid cancelled

Hi markeyro.. Top rated sellers do not cancel bids/listings willy nilly, after all , profit is in selling.  That said , sellers do have extensive control over their listing and who they wish to deal with.

Perhaps an inventory issue that just came to light or non functioning , broken , the dog ate it etc.

Sellers can also cancel any bid and place members on their blocked bidder list. Perhaps a bidder is communicating in a manner that seller interprets as trouble.

There is also the possibility that the seller changed his mind about selling the item and now wishes to keep it.
