Canpar - Ways to avoid?

Have been receiving my packages through Canpar which I am sure you guys know is bottom barrel garbage in terms of service.

Was wondering if there is an option to specify NOT CANPAR in your delivery? I would pay extra to ship otherwise.

Any idea?

Unfortunately, with the limited options that display when creating a dot ca listing, sellers in Canada are able to use whichever carrier they choose, "usually" if they are paying for delivery. Have had this happen to me several times in the recent past. As soon as I realize it's coming with someone other than Canadapost I monitor closely, making sure AS SOON AS I SEE it's out for delivery to be home or to note on my door do not safe drop. Safe drop usually ends up being, Leave on the front step in plain sight. Not good if you can't be home. If sellers had to specify exactly where they are shipping from and the service they are using, (Especially all the sellers in the USA that note - Priority Mail or Canadian Sellers that just show Canada) it will make buyers much more comfortable with choosing their seller or getting a surprise after the fact.

PS. This was a major problem with the Canadapost strike and your only available option was Flat Rate approximate, about, kinda....Give or take!

If the Seller is in Canada you contact them and ask.

If the Seller is using GSP ask them if they would consider shipping directly to you with USPS/FedEX/UPS.  If not, then don't buy.

Pitney-Bowes (the GSP manager) uses whichever carrier makes best cents to them (Canada Post, Canpar and others) for Canadian delivery, so who you get is not known in advance.

The biggest problem is finding out it was shipped with another carrier AFTER it has been processed. Unable to undo after the fact. If the listing states STANDARD or ECONOMY shipping, email prior to bidding to confirm. There are a few city to city couriers now available in Canada that do not respond to phone calls or emails and are very difficult to confirm an approximate delivery time.

PS. With the UPS/FedEx/DHL you could be on the hook for major surprise brokerage charges on higher value shipments.

I agree, Can Par is the worst, I just got a package that would have fit through the mail slot, but was left on the front door mat without even knocking on the door. Luckily I was at home and watched him drop it off, so I was able to bring it in right away. Why he didn't put it in the mail slot is beyond me.
