How do I request an invoice rather then getting automatically billed !!

I recently purchased 5 toy cars on eBay by the same seller therefore combined shipping.

Ebay automatically sent an invoice for the 5 toys which included 5 x shipping charges 

therefore no combined shipping !

I've looked to try and figure out how I can stop this from happening again .

I would greatly appreciate any advice on how I can stop eBay from doing this and rather simply have the seller send me the invoice with the combined shipping.

eBay automatically sends invoices if the seller isn't set up for combined shipping. Seller may still be happy to combine for you and you can either choose the "Request Total" should be an option in your "Purchases". If you can't find the invoice request than you can "Contact Seller" and ask them. As long as you haven't paid the seller can still send you an adjusted invoice (I do it all the time). They may not have combined shipping set up automatically if they sell a wide range of items at different weights and sizes since that will affect the shipping costs. I don't think there's a way to stop eBay from automatically sending invoices as it reminds buyers of payment but those numbers can still be adjusted by the seller. Send them (seller) a note.

To clarify there are TWO Seller decided options with respect to combined shipping. Neither one is determined by eBay, the Seller chooses them. 

    Option 1 is for a seller to build "Combined Shipping" into his preferences using a formula for each added item. 

    In this case, BEFORE you pass through checkout, you can load stuff into your cart from the same seller.  The seller's predetermined "combined shipping rules" will establish your single cost of shipping without involving the seller . This method requires  immediate payment on behalf of the buyer. No invoice can be requested. It is generated automatically based on the Seller's predetermined formula. 

Option 2 allows the seller to turn off "Immediate Payment".

     This allows buyers like yourself to look around the seller's store for other items for up to two days and add more items into the same shipment. I'm not sure if those unpaid items in your cart are available for others to purchase but they may be. When you're done you then request an invoice before going through checkout. The seller will receive the request and send you a manually generated bill.  Depending on the type of store this can be a really nice feature on behalf of the seller . It can save you money on shipping because the actual dimensions, weights and destination can be factored by the seller and applied  instead of using an automated "guess" that is generated by combined shipping formulas. 

Frankly I wish Ebay would make both methods  clearer to buyers before checking out.   The confusion can cause unnintentional accidents/charges depending on which methods are in place.  When accidents happen all that is needed is to send the Seller a message through eBay requesting a refund for the overpayment. The Seller should refund your method of payment with the overcharge however the seller may loose some fees charged by eBay.  eBay does not refund fees charged on partial refunds.
