Partial Refunds and FVFs

I bought an item for $300 and my shipping was $9 for a total of $309.

However, the seller's actual shipping cost was $24.

The seller wants to issue me a refund for $285 which would be item cost minus her cost of shipping ($309 - $24 = $285).

It's a long story but it was something we agreed on prior to the purchase and we're both fine with that aspect of it.

However, I want the seller to be able to recover her FVFs and I'm not sure she can do that if she issues a partial refund.

How does a request to cancel the transaction play into the mix?

Of course I'll agree, but does that matter if the refund is only partial as far as recovering FVFs?

Also........... just for future reference............... what would happen if a buyer refuses to agree to item cancellation after a full or partial refund as far as FVFs go?

Partial Refunds and FVFs

Easy solution:

Seller sends request for transaction cancellation through eBay.  Buyer agrees.

Seller refunds the full $309 to buyer

Seller gets full FVF refunds from eBay and fees from PayPal

Buyer then sends $24 to seller (or $ 23.00 if one takes PayPal fees into account).

All clean and above board.

Partial Refunds and FVFs

Yes, of course I am aware of that and that is my second choice.

It's the obvious way around the issue .......... and thank you.......:) anyway..........

However, what I'm wondering about is not that......

I'm still looking for an answer to is my initial question..............

To the best of my knowledge a buyer cannot recover FVFs if the refund is in any way partial even if the seller refunds everything but the actual cost of shipping.

Is that correct?

I thought so............. just wanted to be sure.

Actually, I'm not always everyone's favourite buyer. 🙂

I have no tolerance for inflated shipping costs and/or Item Not as Described.

This was something the seller and I agreed upon prior to the purchase.

Well, I once had a seller sending me a cancellation request when he refunded me a partial amount ($3 off a $12 damaged item). So I think it might work, even with partial refunds.

Ya...... I'm still not quite sure about  it.

I can see that when a buyer agrees to the cancellation that there's a notice that the FVFs will be reimbursed before the refund actually takes place.

It still doesn't quite fit.
