Questions about the Global Shipping Program

The expected delivery date still shows October 11 but I have not received it!

The seller has been awful with communication...

The seller is probably ignoring you because, with the GSP, after the shipment reaches Erlanger, her responsibility for shipping ended.

I tried calling Canada Post myself to open a service ticket,

This is a delay and the customer service rep is wrong.

Go to your Post Office (not postal outlet) with the tracking number in hand and ask to speak to the Post Master.

Do this before calling eBay, so you have whatever information she gives you at hand.

and I panicked and opened an eBay dispute.

Good!

Did you state in the Dispute that this shipment is coming through the GSP.

The bots who run the Resolution Centre don't know that unless you tell them.

It says I can "take action" tomorrow Monday 16. I plan on calling eBay to discuss all this come Monday

Good!

The main thing you have to make clear is that this is a GSP shipment.

Ask that you be transferred to a GSP specialist.

As stated, the seller is not part of this dispute and any mention of her will just confuse the customer reps.

ONLY speak with a GSP specialist.

The ebay reps are in Utah and are uncertain about concepts like "Canada".

The same hub and spoke distribution system is used by USPS and Canada Post.

To say nothing of most airlines.

Which explains Chicago O'Hare.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoke%E2%80%93hub_distribution_paradigm

It is also why if I send something by post from here in Victoria to my BIL  in Chemainus, it goes to Richmond before returning to the Island and then to Chemainus, where it gets stolen from his community mailbox.

The "CN" at the end of that tracking number tells me that the game is being shipped out of China.  The tracking number won't work on the Pitney Bowes/Global Shipping Program website as it wasn't forwarded through the Global Shipping Program.  However, t will work on a couple of China Post sites.

What I can see from the tracking information is that the package was received by the post office on October 18th and left Shanghai on the 20th, presumably destined for Canada.

It's not likely you're going to see any tracking information after that since, as per international convention, Canada Post doesn't generally continue tracking international registered ("R" prefix) items.

What was the delivery time estimate stated on the listing page?

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

Will never buy again from any seller who has import fees. This is a complete money grab and I am sure you have already seen sales go down. Amazon, Costco and majority of online retailers do not have this.
That is too bad as I really liked buying from Ebay and have for years.
Not any more.

eBay uses a different business model than most online retailers.  eTailers such as the ones you mention sell goods themselves (mostly) and have them warehoused.  They ship out of those warehouses.  Since they ship out of Canada, you're paying only GST/HST/PST and the duties on those items if sourced from non-NAFTA countries is already factored into the price of the item.

eBay is more like an online shopping mall.  You're buying directly from the seller, not eBay.  If you chose to purchase an item from a seller who's not located in Canada, you have to be prepared to pay the GST/HST/PST and duties those items incur.  You get a guaranteed "free pass" on most items with declared values of less than C$20.  After that, if the item is sent by mail, you're gambling on Canada Border Services ignoring your item.  For items sent by any other means, those items don't get ignored and you get charged applicable taxes and duties, or in the case of the GSP, Pitney Bowes pays those for you and you pay them back as part of the "import charges".  It's explained in the terms and conditions page that's linked to all listing pages where the GSP is offered.

I've purchased two mobile phones that were forwarded through the Global Shipping Program.  It worked out to be a far better deal for me than purchasing through a seller using A-different site as their "warehouse".  I compared a few phone listings on the .com version of the site to the same phone from the same seller on the .ca version of the site (which was not easy to do).  The phones on the .ca site were a lot more expensive, which led me to conclude that that site's "import charges" are built into the price of the item on the .ca site, as well as warehousing fees and other fun things.

I certainly don't question the fact that the GSP doesn't work particularly well for inexpensive, lightweight items that can be shipped as oversized letters, but the import charges are no money grab if the seller has listed their item properly.  Try having something sent from the States via UPS Ground sometime, or just read the ancient but still somewhat useful thread about UPS on this page.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

Hi,

I tried to buy something & have it sent to Canada with someone who will ONLY use Global Shipping Program. Canada doesn't come up on the list of countries available when I try to buy from them. They say their GSP is set to not exclude any countries but I CAN NOT get it to allow Canada. How do we fix this?

They may have their listing (not the GSP) set to exclude Canada, whether that was their intention or not.

There should be on the Shipping tab a looooooooong list of countries the seller excludes. Canada may be buried in there.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

If the item has been shipped by the seller already there is nothing you can do except set up a forwarding arrrangement with your old address. It is a sensible thing to do with the postal service, but the item may be delivered by courier so you'll need to make an arrangement with the new occupant of your old address.

afantiques-- Canada Post does not forward parcels even when a Change of Address service has been purchased.

Your advice to make an arrangement with the new tenants is the best bet.

How do they define a parcel?  Over 2 kilos? My point is would a small package sent as air letter mail be a 'parcel'?

Not arguing, just curious. The UK rules are similar, letter post stuff will be redirected, don't know the weight limit, Parcel post stuff will not.

No idea. But most undelivered mail is held for pickup at Postal Outlets which are contracted out to various businesses. Mostly drugstores like Shoppers Drug Mart .

They have very small back rooms and not much room for parcel holding.

I suspect that anything other than Letter/Oversize Letter/ Light Packet which top out at 2cm thick and 500 grams would not qualify.

Like any other Item Not Delivered.

You have 30 days to open an IND dispute in the Resolution Centre at the bottom of this page.

State in the dispute that this is a GSP shipped order.

Generally the GSP itself with refund you.

If the item shows up later, which it probably will, GSP does not want it back.

marnotom!

jeanancato0's item is coming from China (see earlier post from the member). It's not a GSP item.

From the looks of the tracking information, the seller did not ship the item out immediately, and it's quite possible this delay is responsible for the item not being delivered within the time estimate stated by eBay.

I would give the game another couple of weeks before making a claim for a refund, but preparing myself to repay the seller if it arrives in satisfactory condition after the refund is issued.

Questions about the Global Shipping Program

You would use the tracking # that the seller gave you, but you must go to Chinapost to input the #. Your item is coming from China not the USA, so it is not being sent via the GSP.

Good Luck, I hope it arrives soon.
