I don’t know if there’s a “usually”. There’s so many variables when it comes to eBay International Shipping’s handling of items.

I’ve come to the conclusion that what happens between the time that the seller sends off an item and when it’s expected to arrive is largely unimportant. It’s getting the item by the last estimated delivery date that really matters. If there’s still a ways to go before that date, stop checking on the tracking and go for a walk and make yourself some tea or something stronger.

What is the last estimated delivery date you were given by eBay?
By then, if not before.

DON'T WATCH TRACKING.

In part because of spoke and hub delivery systems, the tracking often is hard to understand.

But almost everything arrives in time.

Mark the expected delivery date on your calendar and don't worry until then.

If it does not arrive, open a Claim and get a refund.

If the shipment arrives after the refund, you are specifically not required to return it. The seller still gets paid. You get your (now F*R*E*E*) purchase.

EBay has excellent insurance to cover occasional delays in shipping.

Just to add to @reallynicestamps' excellent post, this would apply to shipments that were handled by eBay International Shipping (eIS) or the UK Global Shipping Programme (GSP) as the seller doesn't lose out on buyer cases for not-received items.  For items sent more directly by the seller to the buyer, the right thing to do for an item that arrives after a refund was issued out of the seller's pockets is for the buyer to work out a repayment with the seller.

I just had an eIS shipment and it sat in the eBay Hub for 5 days before it moved onto the carrier that brought it to the Canadian border. The Canadian carrier. Intellicom took over and provided no tracking whatsoever for 3 days until the package was in their local depot.  Only then did they say that they had my package and it was going to be delivered the following day. Luckily it was not when I had to be away for an appointment.

i've used EIS (reluctantly) twice.  First time item sat at the hub for 4 days.  Second time 10 days.  First was delivered by CP, second by wretched Intelcom.  However, both were received before the latest estimated date...however in  both cases that date was a ridiculous 4 weeks after the purchase date on items that were being shipped from the US to Canada.

If Ebay sellers shipped items to the US that slow, they wouldn't be on Ebay for very long before getting the boot.  Ebay seems much less concerned about a good buyer experience when they are the ones doing the shipping.     One set of rules for Ebay and another set for Ebay sellers.

But was the delivery by the last estimated date?

It's been my experience in over 40 years of mail order, that packages from the USA can easily take a month to arrive. European shipments have been faster.

Most arrive sooner, but there is no reason to believe they will.
My last purchase from the USA was made in mid-July, and arrived in mid-August. This was not an eBay purchase. I had ordered from them (zuri.com) before and shipping was about two weeks.

My last eBay purchase was ordered Oct 1 and arrived Oct 14.

Luckily it was not when I had to be away for an appointment.

Only Canada Post, in my experience, actually knocks with a delivery. Everything else is left on the porch. If I have to sign, I am given a Notice for the PO clerk and pick up there.

It was delivered a day past the first delivery date possible.  I only knew about when the delivery was going to show up when I got an email on the same day as the delivery.  The thing is I live in an apartment and with this shipment, I preferred to be home due to the price of the item.

BTW This shipment went back to eBay today via DHL of all couriers. That was an experience I did not want to experience again.  The reason for the return was Item was not as described.

Yes I agree.

For example, in a separate thread in the Answers section I have found 3 examples of eIS listings whose listings showed the fees payable on the item in 3 different ways. It makes it extremely difficult for buyers to determine what fees are payable upfront and what fees you are going to pay upon delivery. eBay needs to come up with a listing layout that clearly explains what fees are payable. Auction items are the worst since you only see the total AFTER you win the auction.
