The GSP is a Seller Protection program.
It offers protection from us scary and probably communist foreigners for paranoid and xenophonic American (and UK) sellers.
If you had sellers who would give up their protections, you were lucky.
No seller is required to change her shipping and handling just because the buyer would like her to.
If you don't want to pay the ~$5 GSP service charge and would prefer to pay the $9.95 Canada Post service charge, ask the seller before buying.
The rest of the import fees are Canadian duty and Canadian sales taxes and do not change depending on the shipping service used.
GSP charges the import fees upfront, before the seller ships. Canada Post charges import fees on delivery.

Hi guys I used to be able to get my shipping to canada changed from GSP to whatever shipping I wanted and sellers had no issues with the system to do it through my “request for invoice”. I haven’t bought much on ebay in the past 2 months and today is the first time I want to use this feature. It looks like they changed it and the message the seller get is slightly different. Also it appears they can’t change it anymore through my request... anybody has experienced that too? Did Ebay remove that option?
The link at dot ca help for the Global Shipping Program was modified several months ago. If the seller goes to the link at dot com:
See:
Opting out of the Global Shipping Program
They are able to either opt out or remove for a single listing. Opting out entirely can take up to 72 hours. Unfortunately many of the help pages can and do vary between dot com and dot ca which can make it confusing for buyers and sellers alike. I've spoken to numerous US sellers that didn't even know how they were enrolled int the program or its inner workings and the grief it can cause.

usually a USA seller, has to manually go into the listing, and uncheck the gsp option.. they can't do it after the sale..
