I was just wondering what happens if I buy an item on ebay and it does not come as described in the ad? What if i request a refund but the seller disagrees with my request? What happens? Do I still get my money back?

Thanks

What happens if I buy an item and its broken or unusable, but the seller disagrees with my request?

The eBay Resolution Centre is at the bottom of this page.

Open an Item Not As Described dispute.

The first suggestion is that you Contact the Seller.

Usually this solves the problem because most people are honest.

But don't get stuck on it.

What you want is a refund.

Do NOT accept and offer of a replacement.

If you don't get a prompt refund (the seller may ask for some reasonable proof of the problem), ask eBay to step in and escalate to a Claim.

If the seller does not provide return postage, you will be refunded.

If you return the item (with proof of delivery), you will be refunded.

In addition to eBay's 30 day guarantee, you are also covered by Paypal's 180 day guarantee.

Which is why it is a good idea to buy using PP as a processor.

It is an even better idea to back your PP account with a credit card because:

  • your payment is truly instant and your seller can ship faster
  • you are covered by the card's chargeback policy.

EBay is one of the safest ways to buy online, if you follow the system.

It's all automated and there are few reasons to deal with human beings.

Don't try to make up your own system.

Is there a specific problem you need help with?
