What to do when an item is shipped through Global Shipping and is received broken.

Hello folks.  I was on the discussion forum last week concerning the problem I have been having with receiving my items broken after being shipped  through the Global Shipping program.  This after eBay closed a file I had opened against a Chinese seller who stole $100.00 of my money and eBay has decided not to refund me.  So much for buyer protection!!! That I don't understand but that is another issue.  The problem I am having is not knowing how to proceed to file a item not described case or a received damaged case.  When I do try to go through the steps it seems the only way to proceed means I would have to ship the item back.  That will mean I will be out  what ever the shipping cost is to send the item back and what is a buyer to do if the seller does not accept returns.  The item in question is a heavy Underwood typewriter from the 30's.  I received it with the carriage snapped in two at the back and now it is stuck in place and also a shattered knob that was on one end of the carriage.  I don't want to ship this back because I will  be out a lot of money.  Is there any way to proceed to get a refund that doesn't involve shipping this back.  It was shipped through G.S. but it doesn't appear to have been opened and inspected.  There was no inspection notification left inside to show it was inspected and the packing looks undisturbed.  At this point I am practically done with eBay.  Too many problems.

What to do when an item is shipped through Global Shipping and is received broken.

It is best if you keep to one problem per post.

Start another for your Chinese seller post--

Also white space and papragraphs are yor friends .

So.

You bought from a US seller who does not accept returns.

No returns does not mean no refunds.

Was the damage caused by the GSP?

Usually when they open (and repack poorly) they include a notice to that effect.

The repacking is (again usually) because the seller did not include enough identification of the contents for customs.

When I do try to go through the steps it seems the only way to proceed means I would have to ship the item back.

NO.

This is an Item Not As Described case, not a Buyer Remorse case.

In the second, the buyer is required to pay return postage. (You hoped you were getting a scarlet sweater but you got a cherry red one.)

In the first the seller pays the return shipping. (You ordered a red sweater and it had a hole in it.)

SO.

How far along in your Dispute are you?

Your message should be that the item was received damaged AND that it was sent via GSP.

If necessary, and if you are having problems with the bots, it's necessary, call the Help and Contact people, at the top of this page, and ask for a GSP specialist.

Generally, if the damage was caused by the GSP, they refund you and they don't want the item back.

They are shippers. What would they do with damaged goods?

And your seller is not involved.

HOWEVER

If the damage was obviously not caused by the GSP (you ordered a red sweater and got a blue one) then the seller is required to send you the cost of return shipping. If she does not, you are refunded and she loses the case.

but it doesn't appear to have been opened and inspected.  There was no inspection notification left inside to show it was inspected and the packing looks undisturbed.

This sounds like poor packing on the part of the seller.

The GSP is probably not involved.

Ask the seller if you can supply photographs as proof of damage.

Do this BEFORE continuing with the Dispute.
