Where's My Bike!!

Hi everyone.  I have been dealing with a situation with a seller and Global Shipping.  I recently purchased a 1971 Schwinn Lemon Peeler crate bike from a seller in the U.S.  The seller shipped the bike to Global Shipping in Kentucky using a bike shipping company called Ship Bikes .com.   I kept watch on the tracking on the bike but nothing was happening.  The only tracking shown was that the seller shipped the bike, nothing else.  I contacted the seller who is a little slow to respond and he did finally let me know all the info on the bike shipper etc.  The bike had arrived a Global shipping last Saturday, the 29th.  The tracking still hasn't been updated since it left the seller.  I noticed that the information provided by ShipBikes.com showed that my last name wasn't included in the shipping and so that had me a bit worried.  I finally phoned eBay, no way to contact Global Shipping anymore,  and they contacted G.S.  I received a message from G.S. and they say everything is fine and the bike will be delivered.  Still no tracking.  I'm still worried.  I am considering contacting eBay again.  Not sure what to do, wait or call!

My three GSP purchases are becoming dim memories now (believe it or not), but my recollection is that the tracking status viewed through eBay wasn't the same for all of them.  I think I received the UPAA number right off the bat for my first purchase, and at least one of the others had a link to/from the information from the stateside carrier before the UPAA number was assigned.

Spitballing again, wondering if how the tracking information appears on the eBay platform depends on the carrier in question for the US leg of the trip and how that information gets entered and sent by the seller to eBay.  Or it may simply be that the processes and procedures for tracking GSP shipments has changed over the years.

To @mpit7628 , I realize that this is an item that you highly prize (it does sound pretty cool, and I'm not even into bicycles), but I think you need to stop worrying for now and only get concerned about your bike's whereabouts if it doesn't arrive by the last estimated delivery date.  Fretting about it right now isn't going to accomplish anything.   It's either going to get to you or it isn't.  Divine intervention isn't even going to influence its transit, I'm afraid. We buyers have been brainwashed into thinking that tracking is the be all and end all, when all we really need is to have our item in our hot little hands in the condition promised by the seller.

I don't want to worry you but I would have thought that something as large as a bike would be too big to ship through the gsp but I can't really picture in my mind what the weight and dimensions would be.  If they consider it too big, they will not ship it to you or back to the seller but they will refund you.

Here are the gsp size/weight requirements:

Oversized items

For an item to be eligible to be shipped to you through the Global Shipping Program, the seller's packaging must meet dimension and weight requirements:

  • The package must not weigh more than 66 lbs
  • Dimensions = length + 2 * (width + height)
  • Length is the longest side of the package
  • The package must not exceed 66 inches in length
  • The package must not exceed the maximum dimensions of 118 inches
  • The package must not exceed the maximum dimensional (DIM) weight of 66 lbs
  • Dimensional weight = (length x width x height) / (dimensional factor) where the dimensional factor = 166

Shipbikes.com shipping shows it arrived but Global Shipping tracking stops right before arrival at their warehouse.

That's confusing.
There should be no GSP tracking until it does arrive at Erlanger.
Then when it passes customs brokerage, it gets a GSP tracking number that starts with UPA  and is sent on.
Do you mean eBay tracking of the shipping to Erlanger and the GSP?

Hi. I purchased the bike on the 21st, the biked was shipped the 25th and the expected delivery date is between the 16th and the 24.
I assume you mean it was purchased and shipped in February and is scheduled to arrive between March 16 and 24?
You won't be able to open an eBay Dispute until the 24th, but you could open a Paypal Dispute now, since they allow opening Disputes any time after payment.
The disadvantage of a PP dispute is that you will not be able to then use eBay as an appeal if you lose with PP. You will be able to go to the credit card you back your PP account with and look for a chargeback.
If you start with eBay, you have both PP and the card as backup protections.

my last name wasn't included in the shipping

Not a problem.

The carrier has the address which is the important part for delivery.

The bike had arrived a Global shipping last Saturday, the 29th.

The seller's responsibility is now ended.

I received a message from G.S. and they say everything is fine and the bike will be delivered.

If there is a return address on that message, ask for a tracking number.

That should have been included. Poor administrative service.

At this point, your bike is probably on a truck headed for Mississauga, where it will be transferred to a carrier, since Canada Post does not usually deliver such large items as bikes.

You do need that UPAxxxxxxx number to continue the tracking, however.

What dates did eBay give as a window for delivery?  How close is the delivery deadline?
