Translation…..stay away from others who do not believe as we do for they are ‘not right’, even unequal……. and the only ‘righteous’ are we who are in the light and everyone else is in the dark (light = good….dark = bad).

What does it mean to be unequally yoked?

Definition of YOKE: (from Latin to join) - a wooden bar or frame by which two draft animals (as oxen) are joined at the heads or necks for working together. (From Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary)

Literally: the Bible uses beasts of burden as an example. If a donkey and an ox are yoked together (which God forbid the people of Israel to do in Deuteronomy 22:10), the yoke will weigh heavily on one animal while choking the other, or as the animal with the longer stride moves ahead it will painfully drag the other along by the neck! They would not be able to pull smoothly or painlessly together and little work would get done. But when two animals of approximately the same size and weight are yoked together, they pull the plow smoothly, helping each other, and work is accomplished.

Spiritually: becoming attached to a person who does not share your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior can be just as painful and counterproductive as the illustration of the unequally yoked animals. Whether attached financially (as in a business partnership) or emotionally (as a spouse), you are connected to someone who cannot "pull" equally with you in life.

Gheesh it was a simple question tickle.....can a question not be asked? It is not 'picking apart', it's a simple request for translation and understanding as in other threads, even the Hindu thread. Upon looking on the internet I find that depending on which bible, or translation you read it is worded differently so maybe it's just a quote with no real translation.

Just wondering if there was a thread which said that Muslims should stay away from Jews (or visa versa), or Jews should stay away from Christians, or whites should not associate with blacks……how would these types of statements be looked upon in society? Personally I’d consider them bigoted, prejudiced and full of segregational hatred…..which is why I was looking for a simple translation before making a decision…….which doesn’t seem to be forthcoming.

LOL....well if you read the Hindu thread I have asked questions and the OP has answered everyone unlike in here at the congregation. But 'avoidance' is the trait of those who fear to reveal their true selves....so it's understandable.

As for sage's 'season' comment>.....Where ever there are thoughts and words that discriminate against others unjustly and spread division and hatred by fanatics.......it's always open season.;-)...and I don't care if it's on a telephone pole, in a book, or in an open forum on the internet.

Christine post 190, thats is actually a bible quote ??Just wondered.
And no one says squat about the Hindu thread as it explains their traditions etc. It never once accuses anyone as being a non beliver or how ever you people put it for those who dont believe all that is written by men, in your book.
Here, in Post 198 you have mother quoting the dictionary, saying anyone who doesnt have her beliefs is painful and counterproductive to her.
So, you wonder why you are questioned???
