I thought I'd pop in here for some encouragement and perhaps thoughts. How do you handle major rifts in your family? About 5 years ago there was a major rift between my hubby and his 3 siblings. All over the will of their mother. Hubby would rather have his mother alive. Short story, Siblings just wanted all her money and actually disinherited her while she was alive. Hubby was the only one that stood by her all those years and right through all her long battle with cancer. WE actually had her in our small home for 8 months during her treatment - she in our bed, while we slept in the spare room on an air mattress. In spite of everything she still left them all substantial amounts in her will - hubby got a bit more. Not fair said siblings and sued hubby - and made up all kinds of incredibly vicious evil lies to try to have a case against him. Hubby did nothing wrong - he only helped his mother because she was his mother - no other reason. Siblings lost - after 2 years - and they paid legal costs.

So now we have not heard from them in several years . Hubby's dad sent us an email that one sibling had a son last night. My son has cousins he may never meet.

So, I'm sad that I likely won't be meeting my new little nephew anytime soon... and hubby's father seriously ill too now - ... the whole thing just makes me so sad. I hate this... Image hosting by Photobucket

Personally, I would welcome contact from them - hubby does miss his siblings. But on the other hand, they are just so untrustworthy so I would not seek them out - being a Christian does not mean you have to be a doormat. I certainly would not slam a door in their face, but I most assuredly would tread very cautiously with them. Image hosting by Photobucket

Thanks for the warm thoughts and prayers. It is just a holter test to see if the last procedure and / or medication is working.

Devil, I could care less what you think of my writing (or of me, for that matter). My books have been translated into 12 different languages worldwide, have won numerous awards, and my newsletter contact list is 3,000 and growing. I am a member of at least a dozen writer's guilds, have been on a speaker's list for years and on TV and radio hundreds of times, and last year, I topped my personal best for sold freelance articles. My income is paying for my daughter's tuition.

Am I proud of myself? Darn straight I am. My writing is my job and I do it well. Critics - especially the uneducated, clueless ones (ahem) - are like gnats...annoying, pesky, but easy to ignore.

mybearsnme - I wish I had some words of wisdom for you right now. Families are funny things aren't they? I often think if we weren't related to them we certainly wouldn't choose them as friends. Perhaps you could just send a congratulations card welcoming the new nephew? It would just let them know 'yes, we are still here and yes, we are thinking about you'.

I can't help but think of 'shaow_lite 2001' post about the loss of her friend. Life is short, time is precious, you never really know what is going to happen tomorrow. Live life with no regrets.

Will be praying that God gives you the wisdom to know what to do.

I am home and wired. The Holter is a machine the monitors my heart activity and I have to wear it for 24 hours. I am so thankful for technology as I was given a new monitor which is a lot smaller and lighter than the old ones. I am not even feeling cranky!

((Bears)),

I am in a similar situation to yours. I have discussed the situation with a professional and his advice was to take the path of the least stress. I do find that talking to God about it helps.

Hello everyone. Hope each one is well.

Bears - I heard this broadcast on CBC radio yesterday. It touches very much on your subject. I only heard bits and pieces of it but what I heard was very good - especially the very last part.

It is an hour long but I suggest that you listen to the whole thing. The broadcast was the Wednesday edition and you can click on the icon to listen to it. It will only be on the CBC site for a few days so if it is of any value you should listen to it soon and if you can get hubby to listen to it as it may be of some help to him. It really is one of the best secular pieces I have ever heard on this subject.

Good luck.

Oh ((((Bears)))) that happens so often you would not believe it. I am very glad the decision was made in your husband's favor.

This seems so sad, because obviously, even if it was just a small behest, they wanted to make sure you two realized that they were aware of the sacrifice you made.

My DS did not have to take care of my father in illness because he died suddenly, but she was also the only one who lived near to him, and faithfully weekend after weekend would drive 1 1/2 hrs each way to visit after my mother died. She did it for years. If he had left everything to her, it would have been okay with we other three. Caretaking parents is hard, and requires lots of sacrifice.

I hope you can all reconcile, this birth of a baby would be such a better occasion than standing together by a grave some day with a ton of regret for time lost.

The Court decided that you and DH were right, it is impartial, and I hope the rest of his family can see that, and there can be peace. Good luck.

MLM--I always enjoy your posts. Keep smiling, my friend.

Prayers are requested for my mum. She has been in BC for the last month staying with my sister, and overall (apart from the oxygen requirements) has been doing fairly well.

My sister phoned me this morning in a state....mum has picked up some sort of stomach flu thing and has now been admitted to the hospital with dehydration. She already spent Sunday night in emerg and after a 2 liter fluid bolus was sent home. She is so immunocompromized from all the chemo and radiation that she is having one heck of a time shaking this.

Mum is usually such a trooper and fighter. My sister is afraid that mum has given up fighting. I pray not as that is such a big part of the cancer battle, and yes, this is just the stomach flu but considering what she has been through this is a huge deal for her.

My sister is stressed, my mum is sick and I am here...feeling very far away and very useless.

Prayers requested that mum will continue to give this all she's got. That she will find the strength (from somewhere) to just continue on.

Thanks! :-x
