"THE TRIP HOME"

Thx Andrew, great food for thought. Here's a gospel song I've always cherished about the trip home.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qefw0YDXJfM

LIFE IS LIKE A MOUNTAIN RAILROAD

LIFE'S RAILWAY TO HEAVEN

Life is like a mountain railroad, with an engineer that’s brave;
We must make the run successful, from the cradle to the grave;
Watch the curves, the fills, the tunnels; never falter, never quail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.

Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.

You will roll up grades of trial; you will cross the bridge of strife;
See that Christ is your Conductor on this lightning train of life;
Always mindful of obstruction, do your duty, never fail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.

You will often find obstructions; look for storms of wind and rain;
On a fill, or curve, or trestle, they will almost ditch your train;
Put your trust alone in Jesus; never falter, never fail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.

As you roll across the trestle, spanning Jordan’s swelling tide,
You behold the Union Depot into which your train will glide;
There you’ll meet the Superintendent, God the Father, God the Son,
With the hearty, joyous, plaudit, “Weary pilgrim, welcome home!”

Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore. .

I had to mosey on back a few pages to find this thread.

I hope the few that do read it are enjoying life and their day. Strange times we live in ... any sane person would just up and leave if they could.

the problems are becoming far more then the nations can deal with ... the media in league with the powers that be do not tell the masses the whole truth ...

The current food crisis is a case in point ...

The more we try and solve problems the more we create and they are more complicated then the first set of problems ...

But still it is a comfort to know that over riding it all there is one who truly cares and is in ultimate control .. may each and every reader enjoy the personal comfort of knowing this universal truth ...

take care and enjoy your weekend.

Wet, and tonight--windy too. Some power outages here. So far we are okay, but I am headed off to bed and will have my flashlight ready.

We don't need ACs often here, but when we have those hot days, you will be smiling!

DGS did NOT rip up his graduation certificate from pre-school this year. Last year, he took it, ripped it, balled it up and flung it on the floor in front of all assembled. We suspect he had stood in a long line and thought he was getting a goodie at the end and was not pleased when it turned out to be paper.

This year he showed us the paper proudly. Progress.

Thank you God.

Hope everyone is well, happy and enjoying the day.

Wars and Rumors of Wars

This week, the Associated Press reported that a recent Israeli military exercise may have been intended to show the nation’s abilities to attack Iranian nuclear facilities.

The International Herald Tribune called it a “major military exercise” that “appeared to be a rehearsal for a potential bombing attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities,” with more than 100 F-16 and F-15 fighters joining the maneuvers over the eastern Mediterranean earlier this month.

The reason for this training mission is Israel’s belief that Iran is attempting to build nuclear weapons that could be used against it. Iran — whose president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has vowed to wipe Israel off the face of the earth — counters that its nuclear enrichment facility is simply generating power for the nation.

There is no doubt that the drama is mounting in the Middle East and the eyes of the world are again focused on this volatile region.

As a Christian, I look at these reports with thoughts geared on biblical prophecy, which foretell of an invasion against Israel during the “last days.” Most specifically, Ezekiel 38:16 forecasts the following: “You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land ….”

There has been ongoing speculation as to who all of these nations are that will rise up against Israel in this future event. One thing is certain, as Dr. Ed Hindson of Liberty University has pointed out: “they are united in their determination to destroy Israel.”

And so, as wars and rumors of wars persist in the Middle East, we are reminded that the Bible appeals to Christians to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6, NKJV).

As an aside, note that the Bible twice recounts occasions when Jesus cried. We see that He “wept” when told of Lazarus’s death (prior to raising him from the grave) in John 11:35. And then we see that Jesus was also driven to tears in Luke 19:41 as He approached Jerusalem. The passage says that “as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it.”

My friends, if Jesus loved Jerusalem this much, should we not be taking seriously our responsibility to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, especially in these perilous times?

I believe that the prophetic “last days” are rapidly approaching. As Christians we are instructed to be about the works of the Father while there is still time (John 9:4).

And at such a time as this, we must also heed the Savior’s words: “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:28).

While the world continues in unrest and the future sometimes appears bleak, this Scripture passage gives us the ultimate hope. Our faith is not in vain. Our Savior will one day return to right all wrongs and claim His children unto Himself.

Until then, remember those great words from Luke: “look up!” For one day we will “see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory” (Luke 21:27). .

and was not pleased when it turned out to be paper.

I had to laugh when I read that part, Nikki!!

( at least you've got 'childhood' to blame the antics on!! 😉 )

DD's grandma was ever so proud to see her get her first university degree. Photog took scads of pics in different poses, and the best ones of all were the ones with her holding the bouquet of roses. But Grandma only wanted the one holding the diploma, so, even tho it wasn't the greatest pic, I put in a special order for that one with the rest of the pkg. Grandma was SOOOOoo proud to get that picture.

However, it was short-lived pleasure. DD made the fatal error of mentioning it was only a piece of blank paper rolled up in a ribbon for the grad photos, as they were taken long before the actual ceremony.

Grandma gave the (expensive) picture back.

:|

(and congrats on DGS's progress, Nikki!) 🙂

Hi to everyone,

Valve, I think many people are praying for peace--especially in the Middle East.

Almond--that is funny about the grad picture, but I sure hear why you would want one with that certificate in her hand.

I have just gotten home from working for the Altar Guild.
Yikes! I had no idea what I was volunteering for. It is a lot of work--and I am in a tiny, tiny church. I have to say though, that I find this church giving me renewed strength. I had felt old, damaged, and trucking on to feeling useless. However, the median age at our church is 82--I am one of the comparatively "young & strong" ones here. The parishioner who does the lawn mowing is 72--he also is one of the younger ones. 🙂

Hope you are all having good weekends.

Thanks April, hope all is well with you also.

Hello to all here and those flying by. Beautiful day on the Island here. Picked up the first of the season (locally that is) strawberries. Dessert tonight will be Island Farms Vanilla ice-cream with sliced strawberries. Mmmmmmm--can hardly wait!

There was an interesting letter to the editor in this morning's National Post. It is from Stan Sawicki who writes that he uses a statement from Alistair MacLeod's "No Greater Mischief" in his speeches and in his writing.

He writes "The statement is said when the old grandmother says to her grandson near the end of the book, 'We're all better when we're loved'......Such a simple statement but so powerful."

I agree.

Sometimes we mothers-of-marrieds- have difficulty controlling ourselves but I try hard. 🙂 When one of my sons-in-law appears to be making a bad investment, I notice it is not easy for Dads of married either. LOL.
