Welcome to a place where Christ should be exalted and "Self" should be abased!!

Welcome to a place where the BIBLE can be discussed rationally, intelligently, and positively without unnecessary argument!!

Welcome to a place where prayer can be requested and encouraged!!

Welcome to a place where positive and encouraging thoughts from scripture can be shared in a caring and loving way!!

Welcome to a place away from all the arguments, recriminations, and negativity of the outside world!!

Welcome to a place of rest and safety!!

Welcome to a place where Philippians 2:3 is practiced: "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."

Welcome to this Christian thread.

I don't care where people post, but the commentary is affected by where you post. In fact, no one can control where other people post so your statement lacks logic. Good night, Susan

Good evening everyone.

I just wanted to drop in and say hello to the few who read this thread. So hello all :-x

A dear friend forwarded along some thoughts she recives from a daily devotional she gets on Mr Tozer's writings. Those of you who are familiar with him know the depth of his spiritual understanding born from a close walk with God .... maybe someone out there will enjoy this ...I highlighted a section that greatly impressed my thinking this evening ... have a blessed week everyone ..:-x

Trials and Pain: Criticism and Abuse

But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts. --1 Thessalonians 2:4

"Let not thy peace depend on the tongues of men," said the wise old Christian mystic, Thomas a Kempis; "for whether they judge well or ill, thou art not on that account other than thyself."

One of the first things a Christian should get used to is abuse....

To do nothing is to get abused for laziness, and to do anything is to get abused for not doing something else.

Was it not Voltaire who said that some people were like insects, they would never be noticed except that they sting? A traveler must make up his mind to go on regardless of the insects that make his trip miserable....

One thing is certain, a Christian's standing before God does not depend upon his standing before men. A high reputation does not make a man dearer to God, nor does the tongue of the slanderer influence God's attitude toward His people in any way. He knows us each one, and we stand or fall in the light of His perfect knowledge. The Next Chapter After the Last, pp. 94-95

"Lord, I know this truth, but it's so hard to 'let not thy peace depend on the tongues of men.' The stinging insects are so annoying! Give me peace in Your approval today. Amen."

Thank you, Andrew. I thoroughly enjoy your spiritual posts.
I go to the early service at my church. It's hard when the weather is so cold, but what are a few hours devoted to God when we consider how many hours there are in a week.
Advent is always sobering but fun too. Todays Gospel was Christ's, the son of man's, return. The sermon was on emptying yourself of what is not worth keeping to leave more room for God and Christ. What a useful thing to do!

Blessings to all, Susan

Hi Andrew and Susan--good posts, both of you.

Our sermon was on the fullness of time, and God's time not being the same as ours. Even DH did not fall asleep.:-)

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening.

Lovely post A..M..Y---Welcome!

A very stormy sea tonight--our first real blow for a long time. Now I remember why we moved the big rocking chairs off the deck. LOL

Hope you are all warm and dry tonight.

Sweet Dreams.

Nikki, you might think I'm crazy, But I envy you your 'big blow' coming in, (well sort of) I would love love love a seaview, I adore the ocean. I adore the Island. When I first came over from the UK, hubby was stationed at Workpoint Barracks, we lived in Esquimalt with an ocean view and the Olympic mountains across the strait. We watched loons in our little bay, and the abundant sealife. You are so lucky to be living on the Island, if it wasn't for our daughter, hubby and grandchildren, I know I would move back. Take Care !

Hi guys & gals...I need a gift idea for baby's baptism. I want to get something unique and different. A co-worker suggested a necklace and cross, that seems so...unoriginal. Ideas?

Amy, I love the font that you use on the gifs! what's it called? I think it's time for a new siggie!

Trupti: Most child Baptism gifts are pretty standard and not all that exciting.
I remember from my own childhood a book of Bible stories. Children are not usually up to the language and complexity of the Bible itself. These books make for good bedtime reading for young chidren.

Trupti - Susan beat me to it - but to expand on that idea - a cloth or felt book of Bible stories - very nice for during those long adult services.;-) or storybook tapes

or a framed Bible verse or any framed art ... praying child, etc.

..there are specialty Christian bookstores where you can find a great variety to choose from.
