Welcome to a place where Christ should be exalted and "Self" should be abased!!

Welcome to a place where the BIBLE can be discussed rationally, intelligently, and positively without unnecessary argument!!

Welcome to a place where prayer can be requested and encouraged!!

Welcome to a place where positive and encouraging thoughts from scripture can be shared in a caring and loving way!!

Welcome to a place away from all the arguments, recriminations, and negativity of the outside world!!

Welcome to a place of rest and safety!!

Welcome to a place where Philippians 2:3 is practiced: "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."

Welcome to this Christian thread.

(Please leave all aggression, bitterness, and philosophy outside the door and please wipe your feet before coming inside!!)

OK..it's done. Every year, I write a letter to my kids on their birthdays. DD15's is in a week, so I just finished his...and I'm so exhausted from crying, I think I'll take a nap...:^O

My dearest son,

Today is your birthday; such a bittersweet time of reflection for me as your mom. Today, with your heart in my hands, I am grateful for the blessing of your birth as if it were yesterday, and yet I mourn the time that has passed all too quickly. Gone are the Lego’s, superhero costumes, and puzzles of your youth. Today, it’s skateboards and guitars…and girls.

On the threshold of becoming a man, you are apprehensive of leaving behind your boyhood joys yet anxious for the freedom of adulthood. I stand on that threshold with you, missing your younger years yet happy to be witness to the young man before me who is everything I had ever hoped for.

Sandwiched between your overachieving older sister and your pesky younger sister, you have demonstrated perseverance in the shadow of the former and patience in the latter’s presence. Your kindness and gentle spirit are the marks you have already left upon this world, and it is my prayer that you always will. The world may not know it yet, but it will be a better place because you are in it.

Your love overwhelms me. Though not an affectionate child, I have come to know your easy smile and laughing eyes as if they were your arms around me. Your incredible sense of humour can dissolve a cloudy day, and I find peace and joy in the sound of your laughter. Your sensitive soul has made me guardian of your heart – a job I have relished and praised God for.

You are the living embodiment of everything I am and all I ever wanted to be, yet your goodness humbles me. I never deserved you, but I thank God for you every day. I am not only a blessed parent but a better person for knowing you. In your quiet, pensive way, your gentle actions reflect honour and dignity. Your character is stellar, and I am in awe of your fortitude. I know your life has not always been easy, but through your strong spirit, you have overcome and achieved. To say I am proud of you would be an understatement. I am speechless, silenced by how good you are to me and to those around you, by your God given talents, and because of who you are.

I hope all your dreams will become realities, and I hope to be there to see them all come to fruition. But if you never hear that applause you so crave, please know that I am always your biggest fan, standing in ovation of your life…a life that has blessed my soul and enriched my life in ways I cannot even begin to enumerate.

Live large, dream big, laugh often, and love deeply. I have…with you.

All My Love,

Mom

Hi Ramona!

Julie, a letter he will treasure and even when you are no longer earthbound, he will read it and know you are near.

Have a good cry--aren't we so blessed as women that we can have a good crying fit and regain our equilibrium.

Happy Birthday, Julie's son. I know your mother is right and you are a blessing to this world.

Julie: I've never read anything so beautiful in my life! If only all children could receive letters like that from their parents, the world might be a much better place .......

Must add part of psalm 51"

" a broken and a contrite heart, O God thou wilt not despise"

Midlife mom; a wonderful letter to your son. If age but could and youth but knew, being the middle chiid is often the hardest.

Nice to "see" you Susan. I am just about to crawl into bed, but wanted to give you a hug before I left.

Doesn't MLM write beautifully? She didn't have a perfect childhood, but she is a wonderful Mom, I admire her so much.

I admire you too, you are taking steps to win this battle. (((Susan)))

Very BAD dy; but am blessed with knowing what my problem is and dealing with it.

I take a great deal of pleasure in reading other posts that are great.

Re morphine and pain: seeing things and odd reactions are common. Pain and pain killers bring about odd responses. This is not the first time I have heard of first hand experiences of hallucinations with morphine. As the healing process continues, look for a reduction in medication and reduced response to it. Please do not put the person in pain feel guilty. Believe it or not, it is true that as time passes they will no remember the experience. If this was not true, no one would ever end up in the hospital more than once!

I have taken narcotics for some time to deal with my pain. The good news, if you could call it that, it is is almost impossible to become addicted to pain killers when you are really in pain. I am in the process of trying to reduce one of my narcotic painkillers. I find it insulting when other people thind I am "high" because i take a painkiller, or , better yet when they offer to sell the tablets for me. I am granted large, regular repaeats from my doctor because i take my responsibility wuth the medication seriously.

There are always 3 questions I ponder during holy week that I thought I could share.

What would our world be like today if:
1. Christ's message was fully accepted by the Jews?
or
2. What if Christ had never come?
or
3. What if Christ had cut and run? (meaning run off from the Garden and high-tailed it out of Jerusalem)

IMHO, great food for thought.

Shirley....:-x Thanks. doll. How sweet! Yep..off to the doc's I go today. Bronchitis has turned into a wicked lung infection. Ugh. But, I am upliftedin prayer and will bask in the confidence that my Lord hears you and heals me.

Thanks to all of you who posted wonderful comments about my son's letter. Soooo kind of you. They grow up soooo fast, don't they? And it's so bittersweet: on one hand, you have taught them to be independent and on the other hand, you want them to need you forever. 🙂

Susan!! How your post has blessed my heart today! You are going through your own kind of pain, yet the Lord is using you to reach out to people....You said: "Please do not put the person in pain feel guilty. Believe it or not, it is true that as time passes they will no remember the experience.

My MIL was very mean-spirited on morphine, not usually like her. She said some things to me and about me that broke my heart. Our relationship suffered a bit of a vlow becuase of this. THANK YOU for reminding me that people on this drug aren't really themselves, and that they don't even remember the things they say or do.

I am so sorry you are habing a "down" day. Maybe it's a day to just pamper yourself - buy something nice for yourself, take a nice, hot bubble bath, or phone a friend for a chat, take a long, reflective walk, and find a place to pray. I have what I call my "prayer rock" - a boulder in the park that beckons me to come sit and pray. It's so peaceful, and I can hear the birds singing in the trees while I count my blessings.

Susan: Hang in there girl, the days are bound to get better soon. And don't pay attention to those that say negative things about your medication -- you & your doctor know best what you need to take.

Julie: Hope you'll be on the mend very soon. Those lung infections are awful and they tend to sap all of your energy. Let your family spoil you a little bit -- I know they'll be happy to do it.

((((Susan)))) Hang on--and I agree with MLM, do something extra nice for yourself, and if you can, get outside.

((((Julie)))), I am so relieved you are going to the doctor. We women are funny creatures--we take care of everyone but ourselves. Take time for you, my friend.
