So the line I keep reading from Canada Post,
getting from their customer service line is,
the backlogs are "unprecedented",
with no more guarantees of anything,
with no specifics as to time of backlogs
being cleared up or parcels getting to their
destination.
Look, CP knows how many parcels can
go through their plants in an hour.
If they have been shoving parcels into
shipping trucks as storage, they know
roughly how many are in this "backlog".
So the question is, shouldn't they be able
to give more specifics as to how long it will
take to clear up the backlog?
for parcels to get to their destination?
Why can't they just issue the statement,
"we did the calculations, it will take X days to
clear up the backlog, those parcels will all
be in the system again at this date at the latest?"
They could, if they wanted.

I highly doubt it especially since CUPW is still playing *bleep* games.

If they say it will take 10 days and it takes 12 days, they look bad.
If they say it will take 12 days and it takes 10 days, they look good.
If they refuse to be specific, they may look disorganized but everything that does get delivered before they announce they are caught up, is a win.
More to the point, sounding pessimistic makes the union look like the bad guys.
CUPW made the mistake (not their only one) of saying it would take 'one day' to clear the backlog.
Even if it takes three days only, they look bad.
Normally at this time of year, Canada Post is hiring casual workers to cope with the normal Christmas rush.
Wanna bet they don't do that this year?

Nothing for 'Casual' on the Job Opportunities website.

Currently showing 8 days including the weekend for an Expedited Package Calgary to Edmonton. 4 hour drive time 7 + days for sorting and delivery. Not sure if things are improving or getting worse. Believe more it's just an "optimistic" delivery time frame or someone being humourous with their guesstimates!! 🙂

PS. Alternate solution: Anyone know when the next stagecoach is parting for Edmonton?

I think they were hiring all the temps back when the strike first started, I seem to recall one of the folks in my wee office doing interviews for the temps at that time.
I think they have plans for them to come in to help out here whenever the volume of packages warrants, so that must mean they have them already on standby???

last year in December they were doing parcel deliveries on Saturday.

According to the pre-strike Canada Post holiday shipping guidelines, weekend delivery was supposed to begin mid-November.

Definitely using First In, First Out for Edmonton. Package is now showing out for delivery. Have now canceled Free Stagecoach pickup. Received my smoke signals on the first try. Stagecoach did include armed guards. Rob the stagecoach...Suffer the consequences!! They're gonna be a whoopin' in Dodge City tonight!!!

PS. Recently Canadapost homepage was displaying a hiring link.(Possibly in the past I just never bothered to notice. What happens when you have free time from not selling.)
Join a company that connects Canadians
Do they accept applications by mail?

That is because neither Canada Post or CUPW use "casual" to describe job positions.
The magic word is "Temporary"

Currently 239 posts up, with many requiring multiple workers.

A link I just now stumbled across at the Canadapost site. Not sure to take it as gospel or with a grain of salt, dated November 12, 2018. See included note for oversized packages. If this was posted previously, my apologies.

I am wondering if sellers are still warning buyers about slow delivery times?

I haven't bothered.
Most of my customers are hobbyists and pretty laid back.
More important, I don't track for the most part and I don't want my US customers (always a paranoid bunch) getting their knickers in a twist because I actually tell them it won't arrive by..... whenever.
I figure that 'one day' CUPW clearance date was stupid optimistic. Someone was in their manic phase with that one.
But that with the temporary workers coming in it will be faster than management is predicting. (Would they be in the depressive phase?)
Hmmmm-- I wonder how long the union guys will refuse overtime if the temp workers are picking up those time and a half hours?
