Shipping internationally when VAT has been collected by eBay

devon@ebay

I used to ship internationally regularly. When the VAT pre-collected by eBay kicked sales slowly died off. I have always marked  the VAT collected amount in the notes section to make sure buyers do not get billed twice. Was never an issue with Shippo. Any notes you added printed on the customs invoice. With eBay labels that info is now either hidden or dropped. No way to tell which.

This morning (Nov 30, 2023) in attempting to create a label the order notes say VAT collected with number in the address field but PS is missing the info along with the amount. It is even MIA on the FVFs page. Why signify VAT was collected if none ever was or is the information being blocked/hidden?

How is international customs supposed to know if tax was pre collected especially when you take into consideration that not all sellers process through eBay Labels.

As for the country of origin that is still porting to Province/Country=Canada vs where the item was actually made. This issue was pointed out over a year ago and still has not been corrected.

It sure would be nice and is super critical that these issues get resolved sooner vs the ongoing who knows when. These related issues are important because the person creating the label is signing to confirm the info is correct. This is not the current reality.

As a side with Shippo you were able to include a valid email addy to the customs documents. This is not done with eBay Labels. That information is a requirement. It is been a long standing requirement  with couriers for international shipping and was added as a requirement by foreign postal services in the last few years. The information is used if a seller or buyer needs to be contacted when there are customs issues and to avoid returns to sender. Addy is first choice because of time differences between countries.
