G'morning Tyler,
Seasons greetings. Would you like some snow? Alberta has enough to spare and then some!!!
Regarding the announcement on VAT does eBay have applicable ABN numbers sellers can apply to customs invoices similar for shipments to Australia? So we have our ducks in a row when this kicks in. Australia example below.
Australia
eBay's ABN # 64 652 016 681
Code: PAID
To confirm will eBay be applying the FVF to that tax? It's not specifically noted in the announcement.
Has there been any followup regarding the issue mentioned almost a month ago for buyers receiving offers from sellers with APP stating free shipping would in actuality it should be calculated shipping(What the seller sees when they send the offer). Screenshot was attached to original request. This problem is causing extremely unhappy customers, due to no fault of sellers.

According to one of the reps on the .com board we will be paying the same sellers fees on VAT as we do on other taxes.

HI Tyler,
I'm copying my post and your reply from last week as I would like to comment on out without having to explain it again. 🙂
@pjcdn2005 wrote:Tyler 2 weeks ago I mentioned that the international standard estimated delivery times to Canada on .com listings were showing buyers a 3-6 week (appro 9-23 business days) delivery time. Actually all generic international options..economy and expedited were showing the exact same delivery frame which makes no sense. I realize that not all sellers who use the generic options are in Canada but few or no expedited or standard options are going to take that long from anywhere in the world to Canada.
Considering that their standard shipping from outside of the US (to the US) only gives a 4-10 business days (plus handling ) delivery time, the 3 + weeks for standard and expedited is ridiculous.
Have they given you any indication that this will be fixed soon? I’ve had zero Canadian buyers for .com listed items in the past month or so and that could be part of the reason why.
A reminder that before these eta were put in, there was NO specified delivery time on .com to Canada with generic standard delivery ....I’m not sure about expedited or economy. Perhaps more reasonable est. delivery times would be 4-10 bus days plus handing for standard and 1-5 business days + handling for expedited?
Hi @pjcdn2005 - this may have something to do with the extension of delivery dates. I've burrowed into a few holes on this one and haven't found anything. I'm going to escalate and see if I can get something (anything) more definitive!
Tyler, I'm certain that it has nothing to do with extended delivery dates. There have been no changes/extensions this year (other than to standard int'l shipping on .com ) to delivery dates for any of the generic shipping services on .com or on .ca. Up until recent months, standard int'l shipping on .com showed no estimated delivery time to Canada. Then it changed to the current 3-5 week (14-24 business days) delivery time. Also, they wouldn't have extended economy, standard and expedited international shipping to Canada to all have the exact same eta. I suspect that someone mentioned there was no delivery date showing to Canada for standard int'l so they just plugged in a number without any thought.
I would think that 2-10 (plus handling time )business days would make more sense for standard int'l and 1-5 for express services. That's just my humble opinion.
I'm not sure if you celebrate Christmas but if you do, Merry Christmas and even if you don't...have a wonderful holiday season!

I thought that I understood how the UK tax thing would work on ebay until I read the announcement posted today about it.
In the first paragraph:
Sellers will also now be obliged to register for UK VAT and collect UK VAT on goods shipped to the UK with a value up to £135 (approximately $230 CAD). The value of £135 excludes shipping and covers only the value of the goods. Where a package is above £135, the buyer will have to pay import VAT. So, if a seller is exporting low value goods, they will have to factor in an extra 20% VAT to their price, unless the goods do not incur VAT (e.g. books, food, children’s clothes).
Wait...what? You want me to register for VAT and then you want me to add 20% on to my prices so that everyone else will also have to pay an extra 20%? So I will be making more money on all buyers except those in the UK?
Then go on to say:
The good news for sellers is that when online marketplaces like eBay are involved in facilitating the sale, they will be responsible for collecting VAT directly from buyers.
Oh...so ebay is collecting it, but I still need to register and add on 20%?
And then....
Please note that Canadian sellers who list on eBay.ca don't have to take any action. Sellers who list directly on the UK or EU eBay sites will see an added field in the listing flow to show a VAT % applied along with the gross (tax included) amount. Sellers should only enter a rate if they have included VAT in their price. Otherwise, sellers should enter 0%. As for all other sales made by Canadian sellers where the goods are imported into the UK, eBay will add VAT - based on the final sale amount.
Ohhhhh.....so if we list on .com or .ca it is going to work exactly like the US tax works.
Sorry...I know you didn't write this but I thought I should mention how confusing it is...especially considering a lot of people don't read past the first few lines of anything. Most of my comments here are tongue in cheek but are sort of based on what I was thinking as I first read it. That first paragraph is going to cause some sellers to freak out. Considering that 99.9% of it has absolutely nothing to do with ebay sellers, most of it should be deleted. eBay sellers do NOT need to register for VAT because ebay will be collecting and they do not need add 20% to their prices even IF they are registered.
Perhaps the part about .ca sellers not having to do anything should be the lead??

Hi Tyler,
I have encountered numerous issues with the new eBay label platform. I wonder if you are able to dig into this at all or at least initiate a response for the email address. I emailed them (ebaylabels@ebay.ca) but received no response.
Issues are below.

Hello Tyler,
Does eBay no longer provide a reason when a buyer requests a return and what is eBay's policy regarding sellers charging a restocking fee? (FVF's, Return window, etc?) The reason did display up until recently.

Hi @lotzofuniquegoodies - I don't have answers for you on the VAT announcements, but have requested more info and will update you as I hear back.
I haven't heard back on the free shipping within the app but will work on tracking something down.

Hi @pjcdn2005 - I've passed on your feedback on this announcement (and agree with your point about burying the lede). Thanks!

Issues are below.
1. There are very limited options as to the size and orientation of the label on the page. Are there plans to enhance this, as it stands it is very limited and the default label is very small.2. I noticed that the return address name for the label is defaulting to my eBay ID, rather than using my proper return address specified in my account. Can this be fixed or is there a way to change it?3. How and when is my account billed for the labels I create? I have yet to see a “payment” for the label I created on December 18th. I assumed it would come out of my managed payments account, or pending funds but I have not seen either withdrawal.4. How and when is my account credited for the labels I void? I had to void a label on December 18th, I have yet to see a “payment” or a “credit” for that voided label.5. When attempting to create a label for a Small Packet USA package I received an error, see attached screen shot. I tried multiple times to correct the vague error with no luck. I had to use Shippo to print the label with the exact same dimensions and addresses, it worked fine in Shippo.
Hi @flyhooks4less - thank you so much for this feedback! I'll make sure that the team in charge of this gets your input (and thank you for the screenshots as well!).

Hi @lotzofuniquegoodies - a buyer is required to select a reason for a return, but not for a cancellation (which is what your photos are from).
Most categories would not typically allow you to charge a restocking fee on a cancellation or a return request.
