U.S. shipping rates

Hi; I am from Canada and thus use ebay.ca, I use the calculated postage , yet I get many questions as to how much shipping would be to the U.S., are these people missing the postage amount on the item page or is the postage even showing on the item page?? I know that when I view my listings, I see the postage total to Canada, just curious if it shows when viewed Stateside.

Thanks

I recently listed some items to be able to use the Canada Post shipping calculator.  Other than setting the calculator to use metric dimensions, the other issue is to select the right service otherwise the calculator will not work.  For small packages (less than 1kg), use small packet services and for heavier items, choose expedited parcel.  The calculator is not smart enough to filter the service offerings by weight and mismatches will result in non-calculation.

This is a continuing problem that is often discussed.

First, are you using metric? Good. using other measurements will give incorrect results. Canada Post went metric in 1974 and not using it causes incorrect dimensions.

Now, the basic problem is that CP and USPS have two similar services with slightly different dimensions. EBay has not seen fit to flag sellers when the difference will make for a bad result. Instead it shows your buyers that shipping to the US is $0.00.

When you look at the Calculated Shipping, check the blue question mark that gives you the dimensions for each service. The acceptable Canadian dimensions are slightly smaller than those for the USPS service.

If you increase the Canadian dimensions by a single centimeter the problem will be solved -without increasing your cost.

Check if it works when you have listed the item. Immediately, go to the new listing and check the US shipping. If it shows correctly, fine. If not, go back and increase the Canadian dimensions and check again.

You may want to post the acceptable dimensions by your computer so you can do corrections on the fly.
