Are there any sellers that accept payments through other means than Paypal? Paypal will not accept my pre-paid credit card as payment and I refuse to link Paypal with my bank account because I have learned that numerous people I have spoken to have had their accounts hacked and money stolen from their accounts. I do online purchases all the time through secure checkouts with pre-paid credit cards and love online shopping but I cannot find Ebay sellers who accept other forms of payment.
If you have a 'real' credit card, you can use that the same as a prepaid card. The difference being that real cards are always accepted. 🙂
Paypal acts as a conduit for the card information, however, and transfers money from your card to the seller's paypal account. You, yourself, do not need a paypal account for this, nor do you need to attach your card to an account if you choose not to. You simply enter your card info at the checkout. If you are not comfortable even with that, you will find that ebay is not a fun place to shop.
Some folks say they have no trouble with prepaid cards on ebay, and some claim to have prepaid cards expressly for use on ebay. But none of that matters to you if yours does not work. I don't see how you can do much at all in the world without a real card, but. . . .
If you are worried about spending yourself into receivership you can request a low limit card from your bank, and it will be the real thing. I've also heard of people who have a separate bank account they use only for paypal and hence maintain only a minimal balance. It would be roughly the same as your prepaid card.
Otherwise you will have to try to find sellers who accept money orders and whatnot, - very few go that route, because sellers like to be paid immediately.
Received a noitification that my "PayPal limit" is fast approaching. When I called, I discovered they wished my banking info. Well, that isn't acceptable with the hacking happening today. However, the member's idea of an account set up for the express use of satisfying Pay Pal's ridiculous need for private info is a possibility. Thank you for the idea.
Does anyone know WHY PayPal needs this info when they already have your credit card info linked to the account? Why do I feel comfortable with this arrangement....I brought insurance to protect your credit card from misuse and fraud.
