BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

So I transferred my banking over from RBC to Tangerine thinking I made sure nothing was linked but forgot about eBay. Tried to simply connect my Tangerine account and was met with "bank not supported. please add another account". I dont have another account. I've spent tons of time on here browsing solutions and see as early as a few weeks ago canadians mentioning tangerine is fine. And before anyone asks:
-Yes its a chequing account
-Yes my names and addresses match exactly
-Yes its a CAD account and I'm trying to be paid in CAD

After speaking with 5 eBay payment reps 2 of them have confirmed that Tangerine is no longer a supported bank and is on a list of "unsupported routing and transit numbers". The only option I've been provided is to open a new bank account. When I asked what happens to my money if I don't I'm told "well it would sit there until you do because we can't issue it anywhere". As if I don't have a properly linked paypal or Mastercard. The other three told me that "there should be no issue". This company is the devil and I can't wait to get its greedy little claws out of me.

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

This whole mess is disgusting. As a longtime buyer and just recently a new seller I assumed my Tangerine account which I have been using on Ebay for purchases would be sufficient. Especially since its owned by one of our country 's biggest banks The Bank of Nova Scotia. But
After completing my first sale and being told to update my account information I too found out that Tangerine is not supported as a payment option .Now in my small rural area there is but one bank. The Bank of Nova Scotia.I use their cash machines and do all my withdrawals and deposits right in the front lobby of the Bank of Nova Scotia .If ebay doesn't have a problem taking money out of my Tangerine checking account how could they possibly have a problem putting money back in my checking account.Same with Tangerine why would they have a problem excepting payments from ebay when they have no problem sending ebay payments. As a brand new seller I am totally turned off by this whole ridiculous banking issue and love the fact I wasn't told until all was said and done.Luckily for me I had to send buyer an invoice and payment wasnt automatic and the item is sitting beside me ,wrapped and addressed awaiting a shipping label. The item is suppose to be shipped overseas with buyer paying the tracked shipping. The amount ebay now has is over $215 as the buyer just sent it.I had no idea Ebay was going to complicate things and make it difficult to get my money.Perhaps I should cancel the order and let Ebay refund the buyers money. And forget about selling on Ebay altogether.Way to go Ebay for turning away future sellers.Or I could go inside the lobby and set up an account with Bank of Nova Scotia and go back to monthly service fees etc ,etc..Or maybe Ebay doesn't do business with the Bank of Nova Scotia either .What a rude and stupid awakening to Ebay selling .

Tangerine started out as ING Direct Canada, though, and was not owned by Scotiabank.  There may be hangovers from ING Direct's IT that make it functionally different from Scotiabank.

To me, this sounds like a security issue on either eBay or Tangerine's end, and as such, we're not likely going to find out the precise reasons why.  My wild, totally unfounded guesses are concerns about money laundering or other problems with "legit" deposits.  Did you ever have to provide Tangerine with photo ID?

What banking networks does Scotiabank deal with besides Interac?  Have you tried looking into other online banks that might "hook into" Scotiabank through another network with no or minimal transaction charges?  I used to deal with an online bank that used a network shared with HSBC Canada, and I was able to make no-fee deposits and withdrawls from HSBC ATMs through that network.

Convinced at this point the term"valid CA bank" is what the catch up is here. I called managed payments 3 times yesterday and spoke with 3 seperate people who stated that tangerine isnt supported. When I asked why there are several people on the forums who do infact have tangerine accounts that accept payouts they essentially shrugged and told me they don't know and couldn't find out.

devon@ebay I need you to understand how ridiculous this is. I'm talking to managed payments who's telling me its not possible but you're talking to them and they're saying it is. But you can't get the people who can supposedly do it to contact me. I also can't speak to someone higher up at managed payments. I can't file a complaint to request a call back from someone who can look into this. I've been railroaded by your services and my earned money, for goods I have shipped, is sitting in your possession while I change my payout timing to stop you from sending it to a dead account which you also can't remove.

And if I call Tangerine what am I supposed to say? I use my bank account with Tangerine on several different websites for both buying and selling. The only issue exists with eBay. They can't reach over to your server and make you support them.

Also for the people suggesting I open a new account I'm in the process reluctantly. The best(worst) part of that is managed payments support can't even tell me a bank which is supported. And looking at the forums is useless as we can see here with several members referencing their actively connected tangerine accounts. One of the reps literally told me "capital one is a great bank several people use it" until I had to remind her for a 2nd time I'm Canadian.  So I guess I'll just play no fee bank account roulette until I satisfy eBay.

Hi @kazcards! I was able to have a ticket open for this issue you have been experiencing and you should now be able to add Tangerine to your accounts for payouts. Please let me know if you run into any more issues on this!

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

I just experienced the same issue.First time selling on Ebay and I can't collect my funds because Tangerine Bank is not approved by Ebay .Which I find very strange as Ebay had no problem issuing a refund to my Tangerine Bank account due to an undelivered item.A refund from Ebay is really no different than a payment from Ebay.Call it what you will but Ebay puts money in my account (refund) but states my bank isn't approved for payment and doesn't put money in my account.A refund is a payment.

Good point, but I wonder if there might be a difference.  A "re-fund" is a return of funds to an account.  Those funds previously existed, the funds are being restored.  A payment is an addition of funds that didn't exist in the account prior to the monies being made available.  If the system recognizes refunds as something different than payments, that may be where the glitch lies.

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

Just to be clear @ampfreakindan  @kazcards

Were your Managed Payments accounts registered and approved before you started listing?

I think it is very very stupid of eBay to allow selling before there is a way to transfer funds in place.

BTW, last year eBay accepted my Simplii account for Managed Payments on two of my IDs, then after a couple of months of smooth transfers, suddenly decide one of those accounts was using an account that was not acceptable. But the other was just fine and still is.

I had to move that ID to a household account which causes complications.

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

Even though I've been on eBay for over 22 years and have sold hundreds of things and am still an active buyer. I am now being treated as a brand new seller. Okay eBay, sure, I'll do that. I have been online chat with CS 4 times now as I keep getting this error when I try to add their requests for a chequing account.

We couldn't verify this bank account. Please select a different payment method.{e138225-1165408x}

Yes, that's copied and pasted. Looks quite professional with the code errors and symbols.

It's a Simplii financial account. The CS reps have no idea why. The first person told me to add another credit card for seller payments and then try again after 24 hours. I did that. I waited 48, still the same message. The next person I spoke to said "just try another bank"..... I don't have another bank account.

I used to enjoy eBay. It's been getting worse and worse for years and now is getting close to unusable for me. How remarkably frustrating this is.

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

This is your problem:

Info.jpg

This seems to be tripping up quite a few Canadian sellers who started out in eBay's "Bronze Age" in the late 90s, early 00s before the inception of eBay.ca.  I think the problem is that while they're technically registered in Canada, their eBay information is still stored on eBay.com servers.  I vaguely remember a communication from eBay a year or so after eBay Canada became a thing that invited sellers to have their information transferred from .com to .ca, but it didn't suggest that there would be problems for those who decided not to do this.  Flash-forward twenty or so years later and now and the new security processes eBay and Adyen are using seem to be in conflict with these grandfathered eBay accounts.

Only thing I can suggest is that you stop talking on the phone to contracted out phone reps and try contacting an eBay staff member (preferably a Managed Payments Specialist) through eBay's chat function (careful you don't wind up with a chatbot) or through the "eBay for Business" accounts on Facebook or Twitter.

Good luck.

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

Thanks for the reply! I think you're right!

I have been using the online chat. Yes, I pointed out to the first person I spoke with that any payment info updates kept directing me to eBay.com. They said that would not be a problem because my registered address is in Canada, and to just follow the link to eBay.com and do it there.

Then after that didn't work I was told to wait 24 hours etc, etc... the waiting didn't work. Good thing I didn't sell anything else and good thing I didn't open a chequing account with tangerine -as I'm sure that won't work either.

my next chat I will try to get to a MP person but I have a feeling they will just tell me to open a new account. Who knows what will happen to the funds they're holding 🤷‍♂️

I also saw on Reddit someone who had been told by Simplii that they wouldn't deal with eBay unless they provided business info and registration #'s for their business etc. I'm not a business, im just a guy who sells old stuff of mine. Wow, this is a pain.

I'll be back with any info I find out.

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

Sounds as though you have this under control even though eBay doesn’t, @toontown92. You’re correct that Canadian bank account information won’t work on the .com site. Make sure that whomever you chat with understands that. 👌

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

If I remember correctly those who originally were registered on .com with a Canadian address were told they did not have to open a new account.
@ricarmic  You didn't have to register on .ca correct?  Any advice for @toontown92 ?
It's been a while so I don't remember the details.

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

@pjcdn2005 well unfortunately I've become MORE of an anomoly as a result of managed payments.

I was a registered on .com but with Canadian address.

BEFORE they changed their minds, I called in and they somehow converted me (somehow behind the scenes) to a .CA as far as I know.

I think they stopped doing the convert over because I was living two entities for a while the .COM one and the .CA one biling etc wise which was very confusing. That eventually reconciled itself but not from anything I did. The official word was that .COMs were ok with Canadian addresses (but this came too late for me as I had already been converted).

My understanding today is that you can have a .COM id and that as long as you have a Canadian address you are ok. When people get in trouble is when they want to change the currency after they're already in MP, as far as I know in that case you are toast and have to open another account.

My bank is TD so I don't have any Tangerine experience...

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

Thanks for the quick reply!  You are an anomaly..again.   🙂

That's how I understand it too.  Some of those who had a problem too were in Canada, registered on .com but using a US address. I think that they may have had to start a new ID because of the non Canadian address.
But Tyler did say numerous times that those in your situation did not have to change ID's or sites so I don't know why some have problems setting up MP. The system doesn't seem to work that well at times.

The problem seems to be that Canadians who registered on .com twenty-odd years ago are being sent to the .com page to set up their Managed Payments information if their registration info shows them as being "in" the United States.  The .com page isn't set up to accept Canadian banking information, as far as I know.  I could be remembering this wrong, but I think another user with this issue managed to resolve this and their registration "box" still showed them as located in the US, so they somehow beat the system in the manner you suggest.  Perhaps in time it will be (or has by now) been changed to Canada, as yours has.

My wife registered on .com in 1999 with a Canadian address and her "info square" shows her as being "in" the United States.  She's not terribly interested in getting back into selling so there's really no "problem" for her to resolve here, but at least she's an example of someone using a Canadian address to register on .com potentially having this issue.

It probably depends on who the user "finds" to help them with this issue when they call or chat.  I suspect those eBay staffers who have been around longer have a better idea of what's going on and how to fix it.

Re: BEWARE. Tangerine no longer accepted.

I've always been in Canada. TOronto, ONtario, TOWN, my old house #92 (TOONTOWN92)

clever? 🤔🫤
anwyay, I too had that odd experience of listing in CDN dollars and then be charged seller fees in US dollars. Through many attempts and much reading, I managed to get my seller fees to be in CDN again. Can't even remember how, but it was a pain.

(at one time eBay actually encouraged sellers to list in US dollars, but they stopped allowing that, because.....? I don't know? I enjoyed holding my US funds until the CDN dollar dropped and pick up some extra exchange money and that's no good for them I guess?)

Now, with the new managed payments and the fact that eBay is now considering me as a new seller, my limits are 3 listings and $200 dollars (which is in US funds). That's the first thing I pointed out to the online help chat. Why US dollars? They didn't know why and just told me to go ahead and list some things.

Anwyay again.. I haven't been on the online help thing again yet, but I will today hopefully

@marnotom. How did you get my info box to show in United States? When I click it, is shows in Canada

Sooo many glitches

I clicked/tapped the "view listings" link by your user ID as it appears on these discussion boards. The "box" is in the lower left-hand corner of the page that comes up.

Okay, well, I went on the online chat/help again for 1 hour and 20 mins +

I spoke to 3 different people. I finally got to someone who basically said "yes, we are becoming aware there is a problem and we are working on a fix and all my pertinent info is being sent to the tech department "

at least I'm not alone in this glitch

I did ask if they can just ship all my info to eBay.ca, but they said "unfortunately that is unavailable at this time and not possible "

I will say, they were all very nice and understanding and apologetic, so there's that.
