2012 Fall Seller Update

There is nothing wrong with having the postal code on eBay...

There are too many sellers that say....

Friendly Manitoba.... or

something like Southern USA

It would, however, not allow me to determine whether a seller is a dropshipper... using Multiple locations...

If the listing gives a code for a US location in the listing ... but the seller's address is China...  That is not acceptable.

The US code  or postal code in Canada... must identify where the seller lives...

What is wrong with Friendly Manitoba or a simple Alberta?

I don't think that potential buyers need to know the sellers exact city or town.... a state or province is enough.

I don't see how this will  tell you if someone is a dropshipper anymore than it does now. I could be dropshipping now so changing my location from Alberta to Calgary or Edmonton isn't going to help you figure that out.

I just don't see the purpose of it. For me, it's not a huge deal although I'm not thrilled about it. But I would be even less thrilled if I lived in a place with just a few hundred or a few thousand people.

2012 Fall Seller Update

I am posting this as THIS should have been smething that ebay should be considering in their fall update

I would TRULY love it if ebay even had the courtesy to reply to my suggestion that the ability to create multiple items in one listing be extended to CANADIAN sellers, the reason why there are SO FEW canadian buyers is in my opinion due to the vagaries of canada posts extreme post charges (ie cheaper to send to australia than to other parts of canada) we are TRULY hampered and put  at a serious disadvantage by being unable to list like for example uk buyers do , who not only have the distinct advantage of cheaper postage but also that facility.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD EBAY, think about this , do you not think you may actually make MORE money by extending these sorts of listing advantages to other countries!!!

I am by the way a brit who WAS  selling in the uk , but now am struggling to compete in a very unfair playing field.

I am hoping (probably in vain) that someone in ebay may actually read this and think about it............

2012 Fall Seller Update

Contact Information has the telephone number of both seller and buyer...

Does not give street address.... but does give city.

Seller's name is there

Enough information is given that  anyone with enough understanding of the internet  can find out where seller or buyer actually live.

I have traced  a buyer to two addresses, one on eBay  and the second on Paypal.... Both addresses were very close together in a smalll town...

With seller's name  one can do a telephone lookup... that is if the telephone number is not an unlisted number.

With today's privacy laws certain information should never be made available on the internet....

2012 Fall Seller Update

I'm not sure how the conversation got onto phone numbers but as far as I am concerned, I expect that someone who has purchased an item from me should have access to my phone number and my location. But I don't see the point of every single person  who just looks at my listings knowing the exact city or town that I live in.

2012 Fall Seller Update

I have had many local buyers..... and many make a local pickup.

and then there have been a few  that ask me to mail their purchase, even though we both live in the same city.

and then  if it is lettermail....  a local pickup,  if it is from across the city it   will actual cost more than oversize lettermail.

Knowing where the seller lives does help the buyer.

and as I have already mentioned... It may be wise not to answer a question from a potential local buyer  with your name... they can find out where you live very quickly.

The postal code will not show in listings... just the city or town where you live.

How small is small before  you choose not to show where you live  has to be your personal choice.

If you live in Elm Creek Manitoba  and put in the postal code for Carman,  just a few miles away,  that could be your choice.

If you do not put a "correct" postal code for Carman,  You will show on all listings as Elm Creek.

There are many small towns just outside of Winnipeg... and there should be no problem with your listing a postal code for Winnipeg....

Many sellers do not allow for local pickups... Perhaps they like the anonymity of selling and not meeting a buyer... ,  and then at times  the difficulty might have to do with what you sell....as well as other factors....

Hello,

3 little points on the update :

#1 Buyers will be required to contact you first before opening a Buyer Protection case (for items sold on eBay.com). You'll then have 3 days to resolve the issue.

All good, but doesn't protect us sellers from Paypal abuse.

#2  More communication power in My eBay Messages. Starting in late September, you'll be able to upload up to five pictures via My Messages to help close the sale. Respond to messages from your primary eBay inbox and automatically stay in sync with Messages in My eBay.

Thank you, that is a BIG PLUS, 2 thumbs up on that.

#3  I don't see anywhere that calculated shipping will be updated with more than just Canada Post.  It is very inconvenient not to have calculated shipping with UPS like they do on ebay.com, or even be able to have calculated shipping with freightwquote.

Thank you

2012 Fall Seller Update

Maybe this is part of the 2012 Update. I wanted to use the @ sign in the subtitle saying: "buy now@reduced price"- because it saves me three letters (two spaces + at =4 letters) and I got the message: "You are no longer allowed to use email addresses ...etc." and I had to change the text. Kind of ridiculous!

Also, I'm constantly switched between Basic and Standard Uploader when uploading pictures. I use Standard, start a new item and I'm back to Basic, except once in a while when Standard is still miraculously the default option. I know this was an earlier update but it has not functioned properly ever. What can one do to keep the Standard as default?

I agree. No obligatory postal codes!!!! I'm selling from home and have a sizable stock here. The postal code identifies your location too precisely: you can go to Canada Post, put a postal code and get what addresses this code covers. That can lead to unpleasent visits. eBay.ca should really consider withdrawing this new policy.

It works even in big cities. Here's an example using my old postal code in Montreal : you type H2L 3C3 and you get: 1657-1795
odd DE LA VISITATION ST, MONTRÉAL QC. That's just a few blocks on one side of the street. Then you can go and get a precise map and pictures of the houses on Google maps....!

If you read things carefully the postal code will be used to identify the city in which a seller lives...

The postal code will not show on the listing.

Just the city and province .

If there is a problem,  it is with a small town.... where a postal code defines a town.

There are too many sellers that choose not to state a city even if it is Montreal.

For a small town...  use the postal code for the next town over....

or have a P. O. box number in the next town over...  or in the nearest city.... Many sellers do that  even if they live in a large city... All mail goes to the PO BOX

I do hope that eBay understand the need for anonymity... to some degree.

There are too many sellers  that state something such as

Friendly Manitoba....as opposed to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Is it possible to use the postal code of your city hall or municipal offices? That would identify the town, without going for your personal address.

I allow pickups at our B&M shop, although I sell from home. Which code should/could be used?

Every retailer has to deal with shoptheft. Even having a cop on foot patrol outside the store doesn't help. WalMart has greeters, many stores have inklocks or coded tags that are demagnetized at the cash.

We just have to learn how to use Delivery Confirmation, Signature Confirmation, Blocked Bidder Lists, Insurance, and common sense as our theft prevention systems.

eBay is NOT going to drop the shipping charges in DSRs at any time because they KNEW that NO ONE is happy with the shipping charges regardless of what, so eBay can "penalize" us in that area and don't have to give us 20% discount.

It is a conspiracy on their part for that purpose.

Only way to have eBay remove is to have a class act but who has deep pockets to hire the lawyer(s)!!

Why post such nonsense. Some sellers get TRS and meet the requirements.

Sellers on ebay.ca have a tougher time but they do get TRS. The standard is tough but some sellers made it.

2012 Fall Seller Update

The new FVF for ending auctions early -

Example one - I have all my items in my physical store also listed in my ebay store - I have paid a listing fee to have them on ebay - I sell an item in my physical store - to end it I now need to pay ebay a FVF although I paid to list and they did not bring me a customer

Example two - I have had an item in my physical store for 3 months and on my ebay store - I put it on sale in my physical store for 50% off and send it to auction in my ebay store with an opening bid of $9.99

- it sells in my store for 50% off - again I have to pay ebay to end my auction early despite they did not bring me a customer and I have paid to list

- it gets a few bids but does not meet the amount it sells for at 50% off in my physical store - again I have to pay ebay to end my auction early or take less money

- it gets bids on ebay that do not meet or exceed the 50% off price in my physical store and I have a buyer for it in my physical store and it's less than 12 hours in the auction - I am forced to sell for less to the ebay customer and disappoint and possibly lose my customer in the physical store

- I have to monitor my stock according to ebay's new rules and remove any stock when it has 12 items left in the auction time

-Example three - I have dead stock /or end of season stock that I decide to liquidate from my store by packing it up and donating or selling to a liquidator

- I have to time it so all the items end naturally after 30 days - although I have paid to list and ebay has failed to bring me a customer - I now have to pay to end them.

- You get the idea - this does not work well - this is a bad idea - someone should be fired over it

I could go on and on - the policy which is there to prevent people from listing for 99 cents and then ending items that don't reach their expected values - should be revised to be a fee if you list under $10 and end an auction early when it has bids - auction format only - should not apply to Fixed price listings - sellers already pay to list these - you are gouging

2012 Fall Seller Update

Hello my_best_friend

you may want to brush up on your selling policies it states

What not to do

You're not allowed to:

List an item that may be out of stock at the time of purchase.

List an item that you're simultaneously selling outside of eBay.

Offer an item that may not be what's delivered to the buyer.

Offer an inflated number of items in a multi-quantity listing.

so if you are selling in both your physical store and ebay store you may get into trouble.

also the fees are ONLY going to be charged on auction formats that have bids.

Starting October 1, sellers will be charged a fee to end early any Auction-style listing that has received at least one bid, as announced earlier this year.
