Any Risk to Returns Not Requested Through Ebay

I was messaged with a return request from a buyer.  I said ok and indicated that they need to open a request through Ebay.   This morning they responed "I tried to use the return thread but it didn't work what is the return address?"  I responded with a link to the Returns information page and provided instruction on where to find the link from their Purchase History page.

What I am wondering is if there is a risk to me if I provide my address and they send it back without being in the Ebay system.  When I refund upon reciept I will get my fees back either way so not sure if there is a downside.

I'm confused.

Wasn't your return address on the package?

As far as not getting eBay involved, as long as the buyer is bright enough to use Confirmation of Delivery, he will have proof that he returned and you received the shipment.

He can do that even as part of opening a Dispute much later.

He has 30 days from Delivery to open a Dispute.

When you get it back, if you mark the transaction as Cancelled, your FVF  will be refunded.

OK, so no real downside in or outside of Ebay.

I have a US address for purchases and returns, so want him to open a .com request so I have access to Ebay domestic USPS labels.   Not likely a huge difference but it leaves a good record that the process was followed.
