Just an FYI for anyone interested. Automatic payment features have been discussed a bunch on com but not so much on ca. They are still a bit of a work in progress and either may or may not be affecting all buyers and sellers. You may want to check to confirm your settings match your preferences.
In confirming my settings on both ca and com this is what is currently available.
dot ca
dot com
Issue being these settings could potenially cause problems with a buyer wanting to combine purchases and may just cause them to go elsewhere.
Unsure how this setting affects a buyer having multiple ship to addresses. Like home or work as an example. After something has been paid it is too late to change an address. As a personal observation compared to in the past customer/seller notes hardly are ever getting seen as transparently prior to MP.

See attached for status as of June 2023. Anyone aware of anything officially or unofficially on this for eBay Canada?
Total agreement to @femmefan1946 post 5.

This is something that I would like to have available on a listing by listing basis. For some auction items I would absolutely use it, but would not want it as only a general default option. I use auctions sparingly, and almost never use offers and would want to be able to target its use.

I mostly use auction format as that is what has worked the best for me over the years and I never use offers...BUT because I rarely have a "deadbeat" buyer, I really have no need to engage in this automatic payment requirement. I can, though, see the good, the bad and the ugly for this automatic payment system, so I think sellers will have to make the choice that best suits their needs based on their own preferences and past experiences...
It is all fine and dandy to discourage the bad practices of the known bad buyers, but we will have to hope that buyers in general don't see this as a major obstacle in their buying processes and that it doesn't discourage potential buyers as well as those countless buyers that already have good buying practices...

From my understanding one of the settings shown above was turned on automagically on dot com. From a Canadian sellers perspective it would be best just to confirm one way or the other. Many ca sellers do NOT routinely check their settings on the US site. I never did in the past. I do now. And because this wasn't an announced change who knows when the bonus setting will appear to ca sellers.

See posts 6 and 18v as to what is happening to US sellers in the dark of night.
When it comes to consistency on eBay there usually isn't any. Better safe than sorry.
Here is a side consequence to this update. Post 43 if the link doesn't work properly. See post 1 for context.
