Calculated Combined shipping rule glitch

Just an FYI for sellers that use calculated combined shipping rule (combine all items by weight) If a canadian buyer is using the ebay app or using .ca it will not combined combine shipping weights, it will show full shipping for each item. The caculated combined shipping rule (combine all items by weight) will only function correctly on .com for canadian and us buyers that I can confirm. I have phoned this in. I have checked sellers items on this forum and the above is true for their listings as well.

I think the bigger problem is the handoff from things like expedited lite to regular expedited when they exceed 200g, and going from below to above 2kg for tracked packet. If I remember right, at least the last time I tested it, they didn't handle that at all and it was causing all sorts of problems so was easier to just turn off. I have very few multi item orders anyway. I assume it's the same for most people.

I have a large quantity of multi unit items. It was working until a short time ago. Usually end up having to refund if they pay before there is a chance to send a revised invoice. Buyers are still being blocked from requesting one when best offer is used. I keep doing random testing with varying results. The reason I don't use policies. Just too much grief.

In the past I used to regularly have multi unit sales. Past few years definitely not as many.

Re: Calculated Combined shipping rule glitch

Yes, this has always been a royal pain. It's been this way for so long I've pretty much accepted it.

Most times I can send buyer a combined invoice (very easy for my auctions), but not so easy with Buy it Now items. As flipistics mentions takes a little more tweaking when combining Expedited Lite Packages since it automatically puts it into a new weight category. I can undertand that the system doesn't know the weight of the packaging and therefore that is usually the difference but as far as I know there is no way around it with calculated shipping be used.

It may be something else in your case though since you have a high feedback score, you have been here a while so I'm wondering if maybe something switched for you when they did a recent revamp to Business Policies. I know I had taken a few months off and when I listed this month my policies had changed in appearance, as well as where to find them within new listings. Something is different within the last few months with policies. The combined shipping bit has been wonky for me for many years now. It was great the first few years selling here, this was also back when everything was in US dollars, and everything went through PayPal but since the change over it's never been the same.

calculated combined shipping rule (combine all items by weight)

.COM

works flawlessly, including expedited lite (CONFIRMED)

.CA AND APP

does not function, charges for each individual shipping cost (CONFIRMED)

There is just no excuse that canda post combined shipping functions properly on the US site and does not function properly on the CAD site or the ebay app

Re: Calculated Combined shipping rule glitch

Absolutely agree! But sadly .ca has never been given all the good stuff that .com has.

URGENT!!!

In speaking to eBay customer service (live) last night there is definitely an ongoing problem (at least 1 month) when checking shipping costs for multiple items from 1 listing on a pc. The rates change undate if you modify quantity using APP but NOT with a PC. As per eBay customer support the suggested work around is to add to cart to check rates (almost to point of check out). This could be an issue if automatic payment is required. The alternative plan is for buyer to contact shipper in advance. For the first workaround most likely majority of buyers will not know to do this so in many cases will just move on.

I use my listing calculator on a pc to confirm shipping is correct from a buyers perspective so an important tool to have in the tool box. Apparently when some systems changes were done (in the past) the box to choose a quantity got removed in error (PC version).

As per going forward, information in this message was accurated at time of creation!! 😉

Ticket #1-4931227555965

Unfortunately the ONLY way to confirm this has been resolved is to check in with support on a frequent basis or test regularly. Not an optimum system. It is critical calculator works in listing and at payment stage so that correct postage is ALWAY charged as per seller settings.

Multiple unit purchases are very definitely still broken. Had a sale earlier today for 4 units of something (700 grams each). When the buyer checks the calculator shipping shown is same if they were to purchase 1 or 4. 11.79. Because all 4 have sold unable to confirm but in testing other multiple units seeing same types of results. When combined packaged my order actual shipping is in the 35.00 range because it works out for 2 kg. Not even close to 12.00 that is quoted in the listing.  (Yes, combined shipping is turned on in my settings. This problem is a defect at your end.)

Issue STILL being the option to choose a desired quantity is now missing from the calculate shipping screen. This situation is either going to be a major surprise for buyers or a major loss for sellers if they pay according to the ebay sends. Is there a status update on the above quoted ticket.

Sample US listing to test. It is  behaving the same way on dot com and ca. Unable to add my own items to cart for obvious reasons.

As per eBay customer service (Facebook Rep) buyers will need to add to cart to confirm shipping if they would like to check revised shipping options for a particular item. Revised shipping will no longer display accurately on the front page with see details link or by clicking on that link to get to 2nd page. The seller will need to have combined shipping turned on and/or be using business policies to reflect the calculation. Alternative is to use flat rate shipping with an amount for additional units. Works fine for smaller items. Not so good for anything large or bulky.

Also makes it impossible for a seller to check their shipping to see if it is functioning properly because a seller CANNOT add one of their own items to shopping cart. (I've tested). You get an instant error message. You would need to check while signed in as guest or under a secondary account.

@flipistics I've tested on several occasions with lighter items and had similar defective luck with it returning bad info when expedited lite is in play. Same things happens if combined weight goes over 2 kg for USA or Intl tracked/small packet air. The calculator also does not "grasp" that 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc unit do not require an additional packaging but that is what we have to work with.

Personal listing test.

@brettjet38

In my situation its a little over 400 (1/5th my inventory) items with multiple units so why it is a thing. For the OP it could be over 1000 or more. I right now do not have the patience to confirm. Really defeats purpose of having a calculator tool to nowhere!!!!

Strangely Tyler was able to resolve and correct a number of years ago when there were known issues with the calculator being wonkadonk!!!
