I plan to open a Basic Store for my media account in the next couple of days for $24.95 a month. Once I get finished listing all the items I have on hand, I'll have a minimum of 300 items for sale (the last few months, I've had 200). I want to list as few as possible on .ca because I prefer to sell in USD. If I use my 50 free on .ca and 50 on .com, I'll still have at least 200 paid listings on .com @ 30 cents. So having a store makes sense now.
I've read through all the Help menu items related to stores, but would someone kindly confirm the following, because I've read some conflicting information.
If I open a store on .ca, I can list 250 fixed price free in CAD and 250 on .com in USD?
Am I subject to selling limits for the first while?
I saw a paragraph stating "selling limits apply if you open an eBay store" which threw me for a second because it did not make clear whether it was for a new seller or an existing seller opening a store. It doesn't make sense that a long-time seller would be subject to selling limits simply for opening a store.
Thanks in advance for your response.

You can also use the free auction listings in certain categories.
Your selling limit is based on whatever your selling limit is now. It is not store related, but if you have a selling limit under 500 items per month or a max dollar figure, you will not be able to list more than your limit even with a store.
examples:
If you have a selling limit of 300 listings per month, you will only be able to list a total of 300 items even with a store. The 500 with a store will not apply.
If you have a selling limit of over 500 per month, you will be able to list up to that limit.

Your selling limits can be found under selling manager as shown below for one of my ID's. Selling manager is free.

I've never known what my selling limit is. I have Selling Manager but it doesn't show the information that you posted. Maybe only in Selling Manager Pro?
When I opened by Media account five years ago, I did have to meet a certain requirement (# of sales and $). Since that time, however, I've never seen what my limit is. The most I've ever had listed in either account has been 250.

That is an ID with no store and no pro, just basic selling manager. I have heard rumors that if there is no limit showing, you have unlimited listing capabilities.

Here are the 2 ways to find your selling limits:
How to find your limits
You can see most of your account limits in My eBay. Click My eBay at the top of most eBay pages, sign in to your account, then select the All Selling option in the Sell section on the left side of the page (or in the Selling Manager Summary).

Nope .... not in either place. I'm sure I would have come across this information at one time or another over the years, but I've never seen it.

Then maybe you are unlimited. This ID shows no limits for me either.

Hmmm, you'd think that, at some point, when I first started out, there were limits. Oh well, I'm just thankful that there seems to be no limit, but it's not likely that I would ever come close to the 2400 that you show.
But, back to my original post, the limit is 250 on both .ca and .com?

correct. Canadian dollars on .ca and US dollars on .com. 250 on each

It was nice "chatting" with you 🙂

Hi 'jt' -- with regard to selling limits, I think some sellers who have been around for years on eBay may pre-date the point at which eBay began to set selling limits. I've been on eBay nearly 15 years and have never had a limit imposed on my account (that I was aware of). Like you, I've never had it displayed anywhere either, or been able to find out. I believe eBay may have grandfathered the longer-term sellers into the system without a specific limit, or have set it fairly high. I seem to recall one of the eBay staffers mentioning this years ago. Chances are you'll never know until you hit the limit, if you ever do. I suspect the older sellers don't have to worry about it.
I really don't think an experienced seller should have "new seller" limits imposed just because they open a store. I didn't when I first subscribed, but that was quite a few years ago now.
I'd say call CS, but we all know how monumentally clueless they are. Before you jump into a store, ask Raphael at the Wednesday Board Session this week. I'm certain he'll be able to tell you.

Thanks "rose". I was beginning to think I was the only seller who didn't know what her selling limit was, but what you've said about being grandfathered is probably correct, since you've never seen these limits either. I'll make a point of asking Raphael on Wednesday ... I would be surprised if they limits were imposed simply because a person opens a store.
Thanks again.

"I would be surprised if they limits were imposed simply because a person opens a store'.
All "New" sellers who open stores will have Selling Limits.
eBay.ca Sellers with established long term accounts (Top Rated Sellers) will not have any selling limits.
If you cannot find any selling limits under the "All Selling" section or in "Selling Manger Pro" section then you have no limits.

I can't find it either.
All SELL does is take me to the Sell Your Item form.
So I guess we are both limitless.

"selling limits apply if you open an eBay store"
As others mentioned, that just means that if a seller has a limit of a 100 listings/month they will still have that limit even if they open a store.
Apparently all sellers have limits but often they aren't aware of then until they exceed them. Some sellers see them on selling manager but many of us don't.(I don't) More than likely your limit is fairly high but if you are curious, you can probably get that info from customer service.

I have been on eBay with this id since 2003. I started selling in Jan 2009. I never had any visible limits showing nor did I ever have issues with limits.
I called a couple of years ago to find out if I have limits and if so what they were. I have a monthly selling limits of 150 items and $6,000 CDN. The CSR (USA based!) understood what I was talking about and when I asked, they made the limits visible on my account. As mentioned in other posts they can be seen in my eBay All Selling and in Selling Manager (basic I have and I assume in Pro).
My limit is a relatively low limit but it is based on my selling history over the years. I had at most 100 items listed in a month and the value of those items was a few thousand. That was my history of listing items on eBay and my limits reflected those with some extra space in case I did more than my typical peak over the years. The limits adjust to your history over time from what I understand. If you make an moderate increase each month in how many you list and their value, the limits go up.
From what I understood everyone has selling limits. I have to assume they are based on seller history and are a protection for eBay and buyers and the seller. If there is a sudden and drastic change in how many items a seller lists and their total value, the selling limits prevent this from happening to minimize scam sellers who build up an account with small sales and low value to load it up with high value items and not ship.
This protection is similar to credit cards. If you have a history of buying low value items and a few items a month, that is your pattern. If there is a sudden increase in purchases and the value of the items, the card holder might be contacted because of the sudden change in their buying patterns.
One thing to understand about selling limits is it counts items, not listings, and it counts the value of all the items. So you can reach the item limit quickly if you have a few listings with a large quantity. Let's say the limit is 1,000 items. You can have one listing with 1,000 quantity reaching you item limit. Or 10 listing with 100 items.
Another thing to understand is that selling limits is not a straightforward counter like free listings. At the first of the month selling limits would be whatever active listings total items (not listings) and total value. Now listing will be sold and listing will end and new listings will be started over the month. So the active count of items and total value will go up and down. The total number of listings used in a month will count up all the time reach the free listing limit. But the items and value will go up or down. One little catch to this is sold items. It is a straight counter as well as the total value and it will be reset each month on the start of the month
I have probably confused some with my explanation of selling limits and how they count. I did not understand until watching them for a few months. I thought it was a straight counter but noticed it did not behave as I expected.
PS The selling limits counters does not count properly. I have reported it to Raphael in the weekly session months (a year ago?). A couple of times he reported it fixed but I showed him it was not. I do not think it ever worked properly. What else is new, lol. The issue is at the top of Raphael weekly session list of outstanding issues. Very hard to follow the selling limits counter because it is so dynamic on an active account with lots of listings and sales. I was able to follow it on my accounts because i am so small a seller.

I just got an email form ebay yesterday afternoon, notifying me they had increased my already incredibly high monthly limit on listing counts and monetary value to triple what it had been. I had to laugh out loud. Not that I don't appreciate the vote of confidence but I cannot imagine meeting it. Not if I worked day and night and listed real estate in Vancouver. But I guess it's nice to have. Maybe ebay has more faith in my profitability than do I. Certainly, sales have been slower than usual at this time of year since mid-June.

And, yes, to confirm what others have already told you, the seller limit you have now is your limit, it doesn't apply to whether you open a store. eBay adds that note because otherwise new sellers come in all excited (as was I when I started to sell at first) and enrol in a store subscription for 250 listings and go nuts until they hit the ceiling of their selling limit of 45 items per month or whatever it is.
That was major rain on my parade at the time. Growth management, ebay called it when I phoned to question the limit on my account. I can see the purpose behind limits and with adding the line to the Basic store description. Less fuss with cancelling store subscriptions that cannot actually be used except for the categories and markdowns on this 45 item-limit that a new seller may face at the time.
