I didn't see this on a thread anywhere.
Canada Post is removing US Small Packet Surface. Also looks like they are removing $100.00 insurance off Air and adding Tracked Parcel instead.

No pricing yet. Oh boy, lots of work ahead to change all my listings.

If I used discount postage to send in Canada, what rates do I use? Regular? Venture One? And can I put on enough postage for Expedited Parcel then go to the PO and ask for a tracking number and insurance?
There are Venture Ones rates just for a couple of services such as Xpresspost and Expedited. The Venture One discount for expedited is 5% and you receive a discount of 20-25% off of counter prices if you use Paypal shipping so unless you are getting your stamps for less than that, you would be better off to use Paypal shipping.

Well I am a Venture One cardholder. Does that mean I can apply that rate to packages I put postage on myself with lick'em stamps, for example?
And could I put on stamps and still go to the PO and ask for tracking or insurance, just paying extra for that, or even putting on more stamps to cover it?

Your stamps are like cash so you can put them on your package and go to the post office with the item prepaid in stamps.
There is no problem with Lettermail or Light packet and Samll packet. For a tracked service, I have heard that if you prepay the full amount, the postal clerk has problems entering it in the computer system with no sale of postage. So you put on enough stamps to cover the postage minus $0.50 cents and buy that amount at the PO. I may be wrong with this as I have not heard this in a while.
Perhaps someone else with direct experience can comment on this.

I went to the post office today to send international surface small packet from B.C. to Cali. Was very shocked to hear the cashier say there is no more surface mail to the U.S. and a very small item I sold ended up costing $15 something Canadian pretty much negating any profit margin whatsoever for my sale. And I thought prices shipping within Canada were bad, now they're bad to anywhere on the continent. Good thing I was thinking of tapering off my eBay activity anyways.

Use light packet air, a whole lot cheaper

Only if it meets the restrictions on LP USA Air which are 2 cm thickness limit and 500 gram weight limit. Tough to meet on most items.
