Re: Chit Chat has widened availability!

Hmmm-- isn't Purolator partly owned by Canada Post?

Welcome news.  It is not showing on their website yet so hoping that Ottawa gets the same arrangement.  Over the last few years their locations/drop spots have been shrinking.

In the Atlantic they partner with Maritime Bus lines and have 29 drop spots!

I believe Canada Post (i.e. you, I, and about 40 million others) has about a 90% stake in Purolator.

@femmefan1946  Any idea what the cost (for you) is to use the drop spot? I'm pretty sure it isn't free after the first one.

Their current drop spots are free for sellers to drop off one or more packages so I don't see that changing.

Slim pickings for Calgary. Majority are downtown or city outskirts. Might be a bit more helpful if it could be linked in with rates to eBay labels. (For anyone that sells items of assorted shapes and sizes. As for dropping off at a CP location they no longer accept puro parcels.

Re: Chit Chat has widened availability!

I read the link and Smart Drop is different. You consolidate your parcels into one box, then Purolator  ships it to ChitChat. You have to buy a label for that but the first one is free.  This has always been an option, so unless Purolator has really great rates it's a nothing burger.

Not all of them. I got once an invoice from ChitChats for using one of their drop-off locations (UPS Store, $44 bill).

Didn't ChitChats offer a similar "plan" using Canpar? (maybe that was Stallion?)

For all these services, Stallion, ChitChats etc, they have always told sellers who are not close to a ChitChats location to ship orders in bulk to them either using their recommended carrier or one of your choice.

20 years ago I was doing a similar thing but this was before ChitChats or Stallion existed and my bulk packages went to the US (a UPS Store, actually to whatever those locations were called before UPS took them over) where they were then handed over to USPS.

I agree, there is nothing new here other than the use of Purolator instead of an alternate service (which one could still use).

@femmefan1946

Thank you for the post!

Everyone knows... I think, unless I'm from another dimension,  Canada Post owns Purolator.

An alliance between Purolator (Canada Post) and Chit Chats would explain a lot.

"AI Overview
Yes, Canada Post owns a majority stake in Purolator. Specifically, Canada Post owns 91% of Purolator. The remaining ownership is held by Rainmaker Investments Ltd. (7%) and others (2%).
