The buyer is being billed for the tariff, duties, and brokerage charges. Same deal that is for USPS. Problem is their mail system can't handle it so they're trying to force every other country to ship with tariffs and duties prepaid.

According to a UPS page they too are collecting tariffs in conjunction with Zonas. Your UPS count needs to be linked to Zonas the same way CP is. (It's a different extention.)Problem being that specific info has not been clearly relayed by eBay to sellers. As for any additional fees, that's still an unknown as to how they are being handled going forward. There was never any messaging from eBay has to how things would relate to UPS/Fedex. Only that access to CP would be limbo for some sort of time period.)

Yes, UPS and Zonos are linked through Zonos' UPS Unlock integration, which allows for simplified, compliant global shipping by automatically retrieving customs and compliance data for UPS shipments when a reference number prefixed with "zx" is used. Zonos also integrates directly with UPS for pulling live shipping rates, enabling businesses to connect their UPS account to Zonos for rate calculation and support for services like UPS Worldwide Economy.

How the Integration Works

  1. 1. UPS Unlock for Simplified Compliance:
You add a reference number with the "zx" prefix to your UPS shipments through your platform.
  2. 2. Automated Validation:
UPS automatically calls Zonos to validate the order against the provided reference fields.
  3. 3. Data Exchange:
Zonos returns updated customs data to UPS, ensuring that the shipment matches the original quote.
  4. 4. Shipment Processing:
UPS processes the shipment with the correct compliance information.
  5. 5. Shipment Record:
UPS calls Zonos to create a shipment record with the tracking number, and Zonos logs the shipment on the order.
Benefits of the Integration
  • Streamlined Setup: No complex integrations or certifications are needed to use UPS Unlock.

  • Automated Compliance: Zonos handles the validation of customs data, ensuring compliance for global shipments.

  • Direct Rate Integration: Zonos pulls live shipping rates from UPS using their API, helping you calculate landed costs.

  • Support for Specific Services: Zonos provides support for UPS services like UPS Worldwide Economy.

(What may or may not be confusing all this is eBay owns CP and UPS account if you are purchasing labels via eBay. If you have your own personal account with UPS/Fedex etc the linking process would be different.)

Process if you have your own UPS account. (Note: I have not tested this)

It will not matter whether a seller uses CP/Zonos or other carriers there will be additional costs & fees to the seller.

Probably would be most helpful before a seller jumps in feet first to know what those fees are before getting major sticker shock.

devon@ebay  Would it be possible to address this particular concern?

as mentioned on another thread, it is my understanding that on Etsy the Zonos fees are $3.99 CAD for processing plus 10 per cent...It will not matter what selling site one uses or what shipping process is involved, there will be additional costs & fees to the seller, so it all boils down to whether the end result is still worth it...For myself, it is not ... I will no longer sell to the USA.

Yes, there is a cost for informal entry into the USA, primarily the Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) for shipments valued between $800 and $2,500. While previous Section 321 provisions allowed duty-free treatment for low-value shipments, an Executive Order effective August 29, 2025, now requires most shipments under $800 to still undergo an informal entry process and be subject to duties, taxes, and processing fees. The specific fee depends on the shipment's value and processing method, ranging from a lower flat fee for electronic filing to higher rates for manual processing, and is typically paid through your carrier.

Costs for Informal Entry
  • Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF):
This fee applies to informal entries (goods valued up to $2,500, with some exceptions) and is generally a flat fee per shipment.

  • Electronic vs. Manual:
The MPF can vary depending on whether the entry is processed electronically or manually.

Hopefully eBay can get Canada Post/Zonos integration in a reasonable timeframe. If Shopify can do it, there shouldn't be a major hurdle.

One thing that I suspect is that some Canadian buyers use eBay.com instead of .ca - even if you don't expect to ship many items to the USA due to the added costs, enabling US shipping purely to regain your best match placement on the .com portal would be valuable. When you do not have US shipping enabled, your items are essentially hidden on .com, even to Canadian shoppers.

(They get pushed to the bottom of the .com "best match" due to you not having an active US shipping policy.)

eBay just needs to update their label printing system to ask for the Declaration ID when choosing the service and printing the label (as it currently does when you try and buy a label through SnapShip). Pretty sure Canada Post said this would be incorporated into their API, but I imagine there may be technical challenges on eBay's side getting it properly integrated.

I suspect we might see the return of Canada Post USA shipping labels within the next few weeks. But you'll probably still have to externally pay the Zonos fee using the app or website. I would be very surprised if eBay Canada integrated the Zonos functionality directly into eBay labels for automatic billing (but who knows).

Hi @lotzofuniquegoodies! I have shared this with the Shipping team and will share more once I hear back.
