Feedback for canceled items?

Recently I have had some buyers who purchase, pay and then cancel almost immediately.

When I go to list feedback, these sales are still there waiting for feedback. Do I leave feedback saying item was canceled? What does eBay want us to do about feedback for canceled items?

Re: Feedback for canceled items?

I don't leave feedback for cancelled items, people make mistakes.  I'd rather they buy an item and immediately cancel it than cause a return or other defect later.

Re: Feedback for canceled items?

Feedback is voluntary.

But sometimes, especially when the seller is new and needs to build feedback (and of course the failed transaction was pleasant and friendly) leaving FB is just a courtesy.

EBay we must remember does not use FB to measure accounts.

Future buyers (and sellers) do to some extent.

Perhaps "good communication" or "thank you" would be enough.

Re: Feedback for canceled items?

Sometimes I leave feedback for those cancelled customers that says something benign like, “Great communication” but only if payment was submit and the Cancel Order request was, in my opinion, legitimate. What’s legitimate? Something like, “I bought this for my mother and then got a call from my sister saying she’d already found one from another seller and hers has already shipped, so sorry!” That garners positive feedback to my mind for not making my life more difficult with an Unpaid Case or costlier Return. A not-legitimate reason is: “My kid bought this while he was sposedta bee playing Angry Birds as I drunked beer and caroused with Wife-to-be #3. I’m not paying for it, bye. ps Yer prices are too high anyway, so go suck a pickled egg.”

That does not get positive feedback.

Re: Feedback for canceled items?

I don’t leave feedback in that situation and I don’t think that eBay expects us to. Even if they were quick to communicate and were polite about it, It has never occurred to me to thank them for that. I suppose it’s possible that a feedback would encourage them to cancel quickly in the future but it could also encourage them to assume that continuing to buy and cancel was ‘ok’.

I do thank them for letting me know when I message them,  but not in a public feedback.

Re: Feedback for canceled items?

Thank you, that is what I thought. I don't understand why when I go to "leave feedback", the canceled items are there for several weeks, so I don't know why they are still there. I can't think of a reason for leaving feedback when someone cancels, and I agree right away.

I know that sometimes people make a mistake, and I don't have a problems with that.

Re: Feedback for canceled items?

Buyers who cancel orders (or have ordered cancelled) are still able to leave feedback for their seller. Unlike, say, an Unpaid Item case that closes without payment which is a un-concluded transaction of a different yet similar nature.
