GLOBAL SHIPPING SCAM to CANADA

Due to this Global Shipping Program SCAM which rips off the Seller also & sends the $ to Pitney Bowes. I've stopped buying books from Sellers who use it which is about 80% of my purchases or 200 to 300 books each year.

Who in their right mind would pay $20 to $40 USD for a single paperback!!!

Thus US book sellers are loosing my business with these ridiculous charges!

I guess they will never drop this program due to good old GREED!

All ebay labels are printed through PB, just like Paypal labels are.  I don't really see that as them being 'involved'

So you've ordered an item that is being shipping through ebay standard international? I'm curious if there will be charges if the item is more than the minimus for tax/duty.

Well, if you want to get picky about it, Pitney Bowes' physical involvement with the GSP is pretty limited as well.  They're more like the behind the scenes fatcats and ringmasters of a multi-ringed circus rather than the performing lions monkeys.  41025 Airport Exchange Boulevard is actually the location of an American branch of a Japanese logistics company.

As I think I noted elsewhere, ISD items are trackable on Pitney Bowes' tracking pages.  Make of that what you will.

The terms and conditions page for the ISD service lists a fistful of other possible carriers that may get hold of an item bound for Canada.  I seem to recall that in the early days of the GSP, we got all twitterpated because Canpar seemed to be the GSP's choice of carrier within Canada, but over time we noticed that Canada Post seemed to be used much more often and other carriers would make an appearance every so often.  DHL isn't the only game in town when it comes to ISD items in Canada.

Re: GLOBAL SHIPPING SCAM to CANADA

Canada Post should be the carrier of choice.

Their charges tend to be lower than their competitors, they deliver everywhere- to the point where their competitors sub-contract to them for unprofitable destinations, and they have a staff that is well-paid and has excellent benefits, which as a sometime employers I can tell you means they will be around a long time and not quit for a 25c an hour raise.

There is the possibility that DHL's Global Mail service could be used, however, which would be a hybrid delivery method of sorts.

Re: GLOBAL SHIPPING SCAM to CANADA

The plan was to purchase a cd that I was interested in without using GSP. Current options as follows. Options originally may have varied but not much and at the time none were showing under searches within Canada. Prices in CAD.

1. 20.38 + 19.41 (GSP) = 49.79

2. 27.16 + 13.57 First Cl Intl = 40.73

3. 20.31 + 20.64 GSP = 40.95

4. 33.95 + 33.96  First Cl Intl = 67.91

5. 29.35 + 27.63 GSP = 56.98

6. 48.40 Free shipping (50/50 would include Can Customs Fees)

7. Winner Winner Turkey Dinner...8.33 + 13.00 EBAY STANDARD INTL = 21.33 (Starts USPS...Handed off to DHL as per tracking)

Nowhere in the listing does it state DHL is/could be involved. So those possible additional fees tentative. If it had moved the entire way with USPS and then to Canpost there would have been no customs fees. It passed by the NY/ON Border the other day on it's way to Dayton to be handed off to DHL to come back to a border crossing. The joys of spoke and wheel.

Why would DHL charge you anything upon receipt for a US$8 item?

Re: GLOBAL SHIPPING SCAM to CANADA

If your item was Made in the USA it comes under NAFTA and is duty free.

As of July I, we can import without duty up to $150Cdn from USA or Mexico.

Sales taxes however kick in at $40 value.

Otherwise, your non-NAFTA item would only attract duty (and sales tax) if it were valued over $20Cdn.

So. No worries.

We don't have any trade deals with China, but there are 13 nations in the TPP and if the disc was made in one of those (Singapore is big in CD manufacturing , I understand) there may not be any duty.

Re: GLOBAL SHIPPING SCAM to CANADA

If and when duties & taxes + DHL Processing apply, it MUST be paid in advance of delivery online. Drivers will not collect at the door. These shipments are handled through their e-commerce division. Confirming anything is wait on hold or using their call back service.
