Government ID verification for MP glitch

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.  I got an email last week requesting verification of identity asking for passport number or driving licence number,  so that my managed payments could be activated, when I  tried to add them I  just got an error message  and was unable to submit.

I have until the 30th to get this sorted or restrictions will be placed on my account, I  have called the MP reps 3 times now as I  have funds from sales sat in the holding account which they will not deposit and honestly I  can't afford not to have access to those funds,   each time I  call I  am told it will be resolved in 72 hours, yet here I  am in the same position.  They will not accept my details over the phone to add to my account and I  am not really sure where to go from here.

I am just wondering if this has happened to anyone else at all?   and if so if you have resolved it.

Re: Government ID verification for MP glitch

Have you tried both license and passport?

I was able to register with my passport number which is good because I have never had a driving license.

There is also the choice of using your SIN, which  can NEVER be demanded, but which we can give voluntarily. I would not do that, if only because eBay started MP by demanding it, which is illegal and I was annoyed.

Re: Government ID verification for MP glitch

Just some very basic ideas that i doubt will be of help but, just in case..

Try entering the numbers using different browser types and diff't devices.

when you enter the number leave out any spaces or put in spaces if there's room (try both)

try entering in all caps and  also in all lower case.

Hope that's of some help.  I currently have a frustrating problem of my own with signing up for MP and a ticking clock.......all my listings to be removed on June 15.  Need to talk to an MP specialist but i can't call them until i'm signed up for Managed Payments and i can't sign up until i talk to someone from that department to get the problem fixed.  How's that for a Catch 22?

Re: Government ID verification for MP glitch

Are you sure they just asked for your drivers licence  number or passport number? When I signed up end of April I was asked for my drivers licence or passport and had to send a scanned copy, not just to send the number.

Re: Government ID verification for MP glitch

FWIW- I had this account started in MP and decided to hold off until another less active account completed its first payout.

Today I went to complete my MP registration. Put in my passport number as ID and......

the MP account was automatically opened using the only Canadian chequing account I had attached of the four accounts  I previously had. (For reasons....)

So that happened....

That's all I was asked for in May (was not asked at signup, only after I had my first .COM sale under MP).  No scan requested.

A scan might have caused a problem since, like 20% of drivers in Ontario, I have a drivers license with an "expired" valid date (a 2020 covid-19 measure has been delaying ordinary driver license renewals).

@msmaggie060

I have a feeling, no proof whatsoever, that eBay has a few different forms which get sent to collect the same information.

And which one you get is random.

If this was a Plan, it could be a method of making it a little harder for bots to sign up as sellers, or hijackers.

But I don't understand how.

No, this is not “solved”! Please don’t mark it as Solved. It is not!

There is no option for SIN. I have tried both passport and drivers license. Neither work! What a joke eBay has become.

@surge2017

Only the OP can mark a reponse as a Solution.

Since you have a slightly different problem, start your own thread and ask for specific help.

Wow, can't believe I'm not the only one.

I have tried different browsers, PC and mobile and it's not working.

Even you entered something in the ID number field, you can't save it as you will get the "You haven't made any changes". Contacted ebay support on Aug 26and was told this will be "fixed" within 3 business days... SMH

Re: Government ID verification for MP glitch

Put your full name. First middle last as it appears on your I.D. of choice. Used my Ontario Healthcard. Took photo of only front and had no issues after inputting full name. Not sure if they ask for your name in your case as mine was photo proof, however it would not accept it until I inserted my middle name as well. The whole thing was very irritating to figure out. Good luck.
