[HELP] Generating Return Label w/ Canada Post (Return ID)

Hey all,

I am completely new to returning stuff. I apologize if this is a redundant question, but I'm really struggling here.

I got my first ever return offer from someone who bought a package in the U.S. while I am in Canada.

Ebay is now telling me I need to upload a return label. I read on these forums that Canada Post locations don't let you print out return labels to upload to other people, so I would need to do it online.

When I go to the Canada Post website to generate one, it tells me I need a "RETURN ID" that reads like "PRxxxxxxx" to get my return label. I have no idea how to find my Return ID. I do not have accesss to the package.

Could somebody guide me as to how I move forward? Am I doing something wrong? Where do I find my Canada Post Return ID? Is there anything else I can do?

First thing you have to consider is that because your buyer is in the United States, they’re going to require postage from the United States Postal Service (USPS). Just like you can’t mail a letter from or within the United States with a Canadian stamp on it, you can’t return an item to Canada from the US with a Canada Post return label.

And the USPS website won’t allow postage purchases from users who don’t hold an American-issued credit card, so that won’t work for you, either.

Other sellers in this predicament have found some success in purchasing a USPS mailing label from Shippo and possibly one other site that escapes me. I think it’s just a regular label, though, not a return label. You will need to ensure the customs documentation indicates that the package contains an item that is being returned to the seller in case CBSA feels like accessing your item for taxes/duty due.

Hoping that sellers with some experience in this can chime in at this point.

The other site that you an purchase a usps label at is Pirateship.com.

You can also find out the cost of a label and send them the money through a service like PayPal or Venmo.

The Return ID/PR number is what you would use if you (a buyer in Canada) were returning an item to a company (also located in Canada), and they were registered with Canada Post for the Return ID service.

This has nothing to do with what you are attempting to do.

You need to purchase an international shipping label from the United States Postal Service (USPS) from the buyer's address to your address in Canada - this can be kind of complicated if you aren't particularly tech savvy, but the other commenter's here have mentioned several sites that will allow you to do so. You can also just ask the buyer to ship it themselves and then you can reimburse them for their costs via PayPal or something like that.

There is nothing that Canada Post can do to help you with what you're trying to do.
