How does shipping get paid?

So I sold my first item through eBay and I had the buyer pay shipping since the item is pretty hefty, 717g. I saw that I can print the shipping label and I did. My funds for the sale are currently on hold. I saw $62 and some change were deducted from the funds. Does this mean when I bring my item and the label to the post office the shipping is paid for by the eBay label?

If you were able to print you reBay label okay then you are good to take it to the post office, the eBay label is paid for with your pending funds (money they will eventually release to you - it should show you an estimated date in your payment summary). It usually takes a few days for the shipping charge to show up so I'm not sure if the $62 you saw deducted was just the eBay fees. Since this is your first item eBay will usually hold your funds until the package is shown as delivered (so get it into the post office soon) or 30 days, sometimes earlier depending on the value of the item. High priced items are held a little longer to make sure there are no issues with the buyer before they release your funds.

Also hopefully you have your bank account all set up for the funds to be sent (once the allotted hold period is done). Hope this info helps and good luck!

Yes, you have purchased the shipping through eBay and if it was for Canada Post shipping you have fully paid for it.  You can just attach the label (securely !)  and drop it off at a postal outlet.  Usually one at a Shopper's Drug mart is the most convenient.   Most have installed scanners so you can scan it yourself and get a receipt for the drop off and not have to go to the counter.   

You can also just drop it off without a scan or receipt of drop off, just be sure to have the tracking info.

The number of the label will be on your Orders file.

But I like to keep my own records, separate from eBay's.

I am old and cynical.

I make a pdf of all labels and keep them in a desktop file. And a paper file of all my PO receipts.

Even so, I often drop labelled packages into the nearest post box. You have the important information.

And congratulations! Not all new sellers figure out they can use Held funds to buy those labels and getting your shipment into the mail quickly is useful.

Are you registered for Managed Payments?
Without your chequing account information on file, eBay cannot transfer those Held funds to you.

They will also ask for secondary ID. I used my passport, DH his driving license.

Many sellers have a specific bank account (often one of those low /no fee online one, I like Simplii) just for their online sales.
