Issue with combined shipping

Hi there, i'm new to selling so i'm trying to figure out things.

I have trading cards listings i wanna do, it would offering 5x cards for 3.25$ with non-standard lettermail at 1.94$, on every of those listings i have multiple quantities ( it's like listings i have 30 cards but sell them by 5 cards ). I wanna offer free shipping when the buyer buy multiple time these 5 cards, giving the option to buy for exemple 30 cards with no extra cost, since i can put for 100g and 2cm thick in the lettermail at no extra cost...

That being said my problem is that i can't put any limit on the combined shipping, or any restrictions bewteen listings... Meaning a buyer could buy 10 times x 5 cards from different of those listings for no extra shipping, but it would not work with lettermail sizes and i would have to ship in two seperated and pay twice.

What are we doing to fix that? How do we charge the right amount when offering combined shipping using flat shipping when the combined items at some point would be oversized or overweighted and can't be combined anymore in one package? Do i should charge an extra for each purchase added, then it cover when someone buy to oversize the lettermail ( seems weird to me to charge an additional price when most people would not oversize the combined items, meaning i would overcharge ), or should i remove immediate payments and being able to fix the shipping manually?

How could i set my listings to offer combined shipping with flat shipping, with size/weight limits to it and restrictions between listings?

I'm a bit lost with it. I hope i'm understandable

Re: Issue with combined shipping

Nvm i found that we can set the additional cost for quantity, so setting it to 0.00$ and remove combined shipping between listings fixed my problem for now... And i can use immediate payments again

Re: Issue with combined shipping

If you want to incentivize the buyer to buy more items then the most effective mechanism is to set a promotional shipping rule that activates free shipping. Set that at a minimum number of items or dollar amount that makes sense based on what you think shipping costs would average out to and your profit per item. Ebay doesn't really do conditional rules based on weight criteria to allow you to refine things to the point where you can be certain the buyer only gets free shipping if the combined weight is within a certain range. The cart design is badly outdated in this respect.

Re: Issue with combined shipping

You can set up your promotional shipping rules at the following link.  Note that after you set them up you might have to check off a box on each listing so that those listings are associated with that rule.

Re: Issue with combined shipping

If I were you, I would charge the customer more than just the cost of the stamp.  You are charging 1.94 which does not cover the tax that you paid for the stamp, the cost of the envelope and any other supplies that you use when you are packaging an item.  There are also ebay fees on that shipping so some sellers will add an amount to the shipping cost to cover that...others will add a bit to the price of the item.

Re: Issue with combined shipping

I thought it was against ebay rules to add shipping cost for other than shipping. I thought that stamps had no taxes too. Its true at the end that it cost more than the shipping cost to ship i guess i undercharge... Not sure what to do actually. I wanna offer good prices for now since i'm new too to be able to do sales, i'll see how it goes

My bubble mailers and sleeves for cards will average a cost of like 0.50$/package so for that i'm not worried about not charging it in the total tho

Re: Issue with combined shipping

To reduce postage costs buy new old mint stamps from stamp sellers. Lots of old stamps never used from collections sold below face value and no sales tax from some sellers. Search in Stamps > Canada > Mint Stamps with keywords discount postage. Some sellers bundle up 3-4 old stamps to make $1.94 and other postage rates. Sell at 80% with no tax. Some have better deals.

PS Do not buy no gum stamps. These are used stamps and cannot be legally used for postage.

Re: Issue with combined shipping

It is a shipping and handling cost, not just a postage cost.   You have to be reasonable otherwise buyers aren't going to purchase but there is no rule that you have to charge the exact cost.   People shouldn't be adding in gas to drive to the post office and their 'time' to wrap the item but to include the packaging cost is not unreasonable.  But if you would prefer to charge the postage cost, that's definitely up to you. 🙂

Here is some tax information from Canada Post.
