Late Shipment by DEFAULT!!

I was checking the late shipment and noticed my packages were dinged for late shipment and I checked the buyer's feedback and he didn't leave me any feedback so it is very clearly that my packages got dings for late shipment by default not by the buyer that clicked "No" on "did the item arrive on or before Date..."!!  By default.

I think eBay is evil to do that and should remove this insane page.  I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and was late in shipping my items and informed my buyers about that and all of them were understanding but not eBay!  eBay just ding me for late shipment!  What evil eBay is!!

How many days for handling time?  I was told better up to 3 days.  If 5 days not good for searching capability, is that true?

Yes, anything over 5 days is going to reduce your items' visibility in search, but in an emergency situation, does that really matter?

In a personal health emergency, I think we sellers have two reasonable options:

1) Hide our listings -- easy to do in a couple of clicks, if not immediately, then a few days later when you're able -- if you have a store.  With no store, you can still end your listings.  It's better than getting potentially several late marks.  Or:

2) Temporarily increase the handling time on all listings.  As 'mj' mentioned, this can be done in a few minutes using bulk edit.

Either can be done using an Iphone (even a borrowed one for a few moments) once you're able to deal with it.

However, I do think all of us sellers need to have an emergency plan to save our businesses in the event of an unforeseen emergency.  If you have a spouse or close relative, training them about exactly what to do is the obvious choice.  Even setting up a "buddy" system with a trusted friend or fellow seller would be better than allowing havoc to run wild, then returning to find your seller status destroyed.  Having a back-up is always wise, and would remove the need to be worrying about business during a personal emergency.

Realistically, even in a serious emergency, there is probably a window of a few days to have your stand-in take some action to protect your seller status.  My DH knows nothing about my eBay business except how to shut it down (on "vacation", with items hidden) if I'm suddenly incapacitated.  Even if it were to take him a few days to get to it, that would be a better outcome than no plan at all.

I always go "sigh" whenever anyone asked me if I have a phone, cell phone, fax machine, smart phone, etc.  I felt that those hearing (not deaf) people are so obsessed with those things and must have all of them when in fact one would be sufficient.

I have Internet, that I can make phone calls through Internet Phone (IP), can do searching, can send and read email and work on eBay all on one monthly fee.  I am not going to add other devices like above just because people expect us to have.  It is very expensive if anyone can have all those devices which is insane and I am NOT going to have any device "glued" to me while I go grocery shopping (like I have seen so many people do that), etc.  I prefer to be "wise" not to have to spend unnecessary expenses just one device which is Internet.  No insults to anyone but I do think it is insane when everyone felt that they need to have to have every devices when it is not necessary.  If anyone think I am "old fashioned", so be it!!  Thanks.

Re: Late Shipment by DEFAULT!!

I have one iPhone. Not the latest. I use it for business purposes. I have one iPad. The oldest kind. It was a gift. The kids use it sometimes, I don't.

I use the technology available to support my business endeavors. If I'm checking email at the grocery store, it's messages from eBay. I'm not Snapchatting my lunch ingredients.

Because I also have unpredictable health issues, carrying an iPhone brings me peace of mind. I can text for help, I can close my store if I need to spend time in ER. I don't use it to call people, either. I don't have time or the will to talk to people on the phone.

Plans aren't that costly for the older models.
