Managed Payment Fees Calculation Help?

I just recently signed up for eBay managed payments, and just made my first sale as well.

I am quite confused though on how the final fees were calculated.

I fumbled around and was able to find my transaction in my eBay account, but it simply lists out "Fees" and a lump sum amount with no break down.

I am located in Canada, and made a listing on eBay.ca for shipping to Canada and the USA.

My item sold to a winning bidder located in the USA.

The item I sold went for $323 CDN + $22 CDN shipping for a grand total of $345 CDN

The final fees I got was $53.05 CDN leaving me with a grand total of $291.95 heading towards me.

I read through the fees for a Managed Payment located here

https://www.ebay.ca/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822

So I understand that there is a 12.35% fee for sure.

So $345 x 12.35% = $42.60 off the bat.

But I was charged $53.05, so $53.05-$42.60=$10.44

I know theres another $0.30 taken so that still leaves me with $10.14

My question is where did this extra $10.14 come from?

I "think" its the 3% current conversion listed under the "Seller currency conversion charge" section of the article I linked but just wanted to confirm is my understanding and math right?

As I am still some odd $0.20 cents or so off based on the percentages and my calculations

Thanks for any help

https://www.ebay.ca/sh/fin/transactions

Click on the Transaction Details link next to your sale to get a better breakdown of fees.

...

30 cents  per sale

Selling to USA -- an extra 0.4% "international fee"

non-store 12.35%

Was your buyer charged internet sales tax?  Fee includes that in the calculation.

Plus 13% HST on top of the ebay fees (since you're in Ontario).

Re: Managed Payment Fees Calculation Help?

I'm new on MP as well. I've found that when I'm using the combination of my desktop and Seller Hub there is a nice break down of the fees charged as mentioned by dennis. The same cannot be claimed when using either of my android mobile devices where I'm directed to My eBay which does not provide the same level of detail at all. The app is no better. If possible use a desktop and Seller Hub.

Re: Managed Payment Fees Calculation Help?

Oy vey what a journey

So again, I fumbled around and was able to finally figure out how to get to the "Seller Hub" page.

From Seller hub I went to -> Payments ->Transaction Details

Which as suggested helps to show the break down of fees, but unfortunately has just added to my confusion now.

I am seeing my item + shipping total as $345 + Fees of $53.05

I see the following

1) Final Value Fee (Standard Variable) = $45.18 + $5.88 Tax = $51.06

2) Final Value Fee (Standard Order Level Fixed) = $0.30 + $0.04 Tax = $0.34

3) International Fee = $1.46 + $0.19 Tax = 1.65

This makes for a grand total of $53.05

I am located in Ontario, so I am assuming the tax is 13% which works out.

Ok this sorta makes sense BUT  I have a few more questions

International fee I see is 0.4% - And I see it was calculated based on $365.86 (0.004 x $365.86=$1.46)

So now my question is why $365.86?

For this I went to the "Orders" tab now beside the "Payments" tab and I can see an amount for $367.86. Clicking into the order details I can see the following

$323 (Item Cost)

$22 (Shipping)

$22.86 (Sales Tax)

Is it fair to assume that the "Sales Tax" was something that eBay charged to the buyer according to their USA states tax?

I am just wanting to make sure I am getting this all straight

Re: Managed Payment Fees Calculation Help?

Yes, it’s reasonable to assume that. Keep in mind that some cities also charge their own sales tax on top of state sales tax, so the percentage charged in tax may not be a nice decimal-free number, unlike what we’re accustomed to up here.

I don't know if you noticed (as you didn't make mention of it), but the first FVF of $45.18 was also obtained from this amount, and not from the correct total of $367.86.

So now my question is why $365.86?

I might have a possible explanation for this mismatch.  Did this listing offer a flat domestic shipping fee of $20, by any chance?

Since I'm not in MP, my eBay invoices still list FVFs for the item and for shipping separately.  And I couldn't help but notice that when shipping to the USA, eBay will (almost) always calculate its fee based not on the actual (flat) shipping paid by the buyer, but on the (calculated) domestic shipping that I myself would have paid if I had bought that item.  (Except when that would result in a higher fee, in which case the correct amount is retained.)

I don't have the faintest idea why it works that way, but since it usually saves me a couple of cents, I don't feel a pressing need to investigate further.  But it would explain the discrepancy you noticed, if your domestic shipping was indeed $2 lower than your US shipping.
