Since i signed up for managed payments i feel i am getting ripped of by eBay.
Example
A transaction before with Paypal would add up to eBay and Paypal fees of 15% of the total so for a transaction for $17.95 the would be $2.69
I just paid eBay $4.32 on that transaction which adds up to 24%
Are we getting ripped off here ?

That does sound high. Does it show you a breakdown of what you were charged?
Where was the buyer located?

You are getting ripped off. We are getting ripped off.
Today, I had to deal with an angry customer who was charged $15.83 for Canada Post mailing. ebay assessed the $15.83, not me! Canada Post only charges $5.75! He was overbilled $10.08 because I could not deal with the buyer directly. My fee on a $25.99 sale was $6.33. Of course, part of that ebay fee was a percentage of the $15.83 overpayment!
It is difficult to contact ebay for help. Sellers should not have to pay fees on fees (Canada Post). In fact, percentages should be less than what they are presently charging.
Some sellers might want to investigate an alternative selling place like amazon.

Re: Shipping
There is not an ebay rip-off involved here, the ebay calculator is simply applying the directions provided by the seller. Upon browsing several of your listings it is apparent your listings' shipping details are setup incorrectly. Right now your listings are set to use Calculated shipping with Canada Post Standard (Regular Parcel) as the chosen service, using those criteria the calculator quotes 15.83 to ship your books to my location here in Ontario. Sounds about right for regular parcel service.
To correct your problem go to the shipping details section in each of your listings and change from Calculated to Flat Rate shipping. Flat Rate is the correct choice if you are shipping with CP oversize lettermail ... for the service you may want to consider selecting the generic Economy option as this provides a longer estimated days to delivery window. In the Domestic section (Canada) enter your 6.00 shipping charge.
You'll need to repeat the above steps twice more in the International section, once using Custom location for the USA and another for Worldwide. Remember to setup your shipping exclusions to block any countries you do not ship to. Right now it looks as if this has not been setup meaning there is nothing to prevent buyers from Nigeria or Timbuctoo from bidding or buying your books. To exclude countries go to the Shipping Preferences section in Site preferences.

Agreed, a thorough understanding of how to setup the shipping details is a necessity to sell on ebay. Most everyone struggles with shipping setup at some point, myself included.

You pay a 10% selling fee to eBay. (This can vary from 3.4% to 14%)
You pay a 10% fee on the cost you show for shipping.
You pay 30c to Managed Payments.
You pay 2.9% for a Canadian sale to MP (3.7% to the USA, 3.9% overseas).
You pay 3.7% for a US sale on the cost of sales tax (but not the tax itself) to MP.
You may pay a fee for processing an international sale.
You may also pay non-refundable fees to eBay for options like Auction Reserve, delayed uploading, extra pictures, Promoted Listings, etc.
Could you furnish a breakdown to show where the total came to 24%?

I'm not sure what policy changes you are referring to but calculated shipping has worked the same as long as I can remember and they have charged fvf on shipping since 2011.
If Canada Post charged $5.75 you must have sent the item lettermail as is there are no parcel services that low. If you want your buyers to pay lettermail than you need to specify lettermail and enter a flat rate. If you entered the information for a parcel when you didn't want to use a parcel service that isn't ebay's fault. As the other poster mentioned, there is a learning curve when it comes to knowing how the different shipping services work and what they cost.

That's funny, but I have been selling on ebay since 2010 - a little over 10 years. This never occurred until I was compelled to switch to MP. Since I started here in 2010, the process has slowly devolved. Sellers have had to increase prices to cover ebay/PP fees. This latest action - managed payments - is not rolling out as it should.
Over the years, I have read ebay's unpaid help defend their honour. But, as has been written, there is no honour among thieves.

What is "this" in that sentence?
The FVF on shipping has been around for eight years.
EBay lowered selling FVF, by one or two percent, when they brought in the 10% fee on shipping charges.
The fees with Managed Payments are a very *tiny amount lower than Paypal fees.
And this year we were given thousands of promotional Free Listings, before the number of Free Listings was doubled for non-Store sellers, and increased for Store Subscribers.
The actual cost of shipping has risen almost every year, but that is the decision of Canada Post and the other carriers.
The Global Shipping Program meant more competition from US and UK sellers who now have more protection when shipping to our Canadian customers.
*very very very tiny

Your first post was about a buyer being upset because he was being charged more than they thought they should. You are saying that buyers were being charged the correct shipping amount until you put into Managed Payments??
I don't understand how you think that MP would affect the shipping calculator. Or, are you referring to something else?

know the feeling, long time customer, sold an item, provided tracking and all info requested, but ebay holding my money, making interest for 30 days. Just a rip off.

From a personal perspective pre Level 4 option I purchased postage through Shippo. When I checked Selling Fees the shipping portions were not included as part of the total. Now that I process using eBay Labels it is factored in as part of the seller fees. I am taking into consideration that buyer pays shipping and is part of that total. (Calculated shipping 9 times out of 10)

ZOMBIE THREAD FROM 2020!
You have responded to a thread from 3 years ago and in those 3 years sellers should have had the time/taken the time to read & understand the process pertaining to payouts...
Sellers need to READ the rules & policies on eBay!
Sellers need to UNDERSTAND the rules & policies on eBay
and sellers need to READ & UNDERSTAND the payout process!
As stated by eBay:
"However, we may sometimes need to put a hold on your funds due to your selling history or performance, or to address disputes. This helps us keep eBay a safe marketplace for buyers and sellers."
To help ensure eBay remains a safe place to buy and sell, and to meet our legal and compliance obligations - opens in new window or tab, we sometimes place a hold on funds, for example, if there's an open case or dispute on a transaction, if your buyer reports a problem with the order, if your account is restricted or suspended, if you owe eBay money, or if you're a new or infrequent seller. If we placed a hold on your funds, we'll notify you by email and, depending on the reason, may request additional information from you to help resolve the issue.
There are various reasons why we may place a hold on your funds.
Transaction holds are when we place a hold on funds related to a particular buyer transaction. The funds on hold may be used to refund the buyer for the same transaction.
While proceeds from your sales typically become available within 1 day of confirming the buyer’s payment, we may place a transaction hold on funds while we ensure a successful transaction. To reduce the likelihood of a transaction hold, we recommend posting an item the same day your buyer pays for it and following good postage practices, such as adding tracking information to your order.
Tip
If we place a hold on your funds, it will usually be resolved within 30 days, but in rare circumstances it may take longer. For most orders, adding tracking information can help you receive your funds faster.

and IF you have read & understood the rules, policies and payout process, then you would know that as a seller returning to selling after a lengthy absence from selling and selling a high priced item, you are under eBay's watchful eye and therefore you need to apply this thing called P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E!!
