Mysterious Drop in Sales

I run a 2000 item store and sell between 5 and 10 items most days. Between 8 pm and 2 am est I always get one or more sales. Suddenly I started selling about 3 per day and 0 during my best hours, this is the fifth consecutive day. It seems very unnatural to me, more than a coincidence. My account health is great and I have no restrictions.

I have absolutely no idea why the shift has occurred l. I am still listing about the same quantity of items as usual. Has anyone else here experienced something similar recently?

Re: Mysterious Drop in Sales

I don't use PL at all, but there is clear correlation between listing and sales getting a boost.   I have recently been catching up an listing in one area, but sales in other areas have ticked up and it is random.   That happens a lot, things slow up, do some listing and it gets an uptick.

Re: Mysterious Drop in Sales

since the "sitewide upgrade" to " 5M limit on quantity of items worth $5 M is basically useless to most sellers, I doubt that many sellers have substantially increased their listings to accommodate such a ridiculous qty allotment. I for one have no use for such ridiculousness...perhaps if eBay allotted 500-1000 FREE listings, that may have enticed sellers to increase their presence on eBay by listing additional items(if they had that qty of items to list)...

I do not have an eBay store & have no intention of having an eBay store so I alternate my 500+ items to accommodate the monthly 250 free listings. I have also recently retuned to listing on .COM and that does give me a total of 500 free listings per month.

However, having said that, IF several sellers DID substantially increase their qty of listings because of that increase to 5M, that would indeed increase the competition in those categories and that in turn could potentially decrease sales for those sellers listing in those same categories.

Re: Mysterious Drop in Sales

I was able to use only some of the promotional free listings prior to the introduction of MP.  My listings never qualified to the additional 50.000 promotion. Before all that promotional stuff started, I was sometimes charged additionally 120-150 USD per month for my listings. This changed with the instroduction of MP and free 10.000 listings in my "proper" category - it was a real game changer for me.

New Traffic view tool. Limit max is this year. Interesting to say the least?!? At least it's not straight lining...yet. When I checked last 30 day period 80 visits Sept 14. After that max per day 5 to 6. Does yours show anything similar?

Re: Mysterious Drop in Sales

Interesting! Mine shows a completely different story, but it matches my private graphs.

My best months are always November to February/March.

Thanks for sharing. Appreciated. And apologies. That was not my intention for it to be worse than expected. That is a common consequence of going down an eBay rabbit hole!!! When I've see those random spikes I always think it's ebay's creative way of giving me an impolite gesture!! Can an unmentioned gesture be censored by AI? Hmmm. Wait and see!!!

Not your fault 😃

I am still not sure what the store traffic means, because the overall traffic still looks normal.

I just sent 40 offers.

Re: Mysterious Drop in Sales

When they removed the shipping tab and have shipping info 'hidden' over on the side, I think it affected non-Canadian sales, at least for me.

Also, I was planning to buy something the other day from a Canadian seller and, instead of showing the actual shipping cost at the side, it just said 'varies'. It wasn't until I revisited the item a few hours later, after deciding to buy it, that the shipping cost was showing properly. Maybe this is affecting some of our listings.

....by non-Canadian, I meant sales from Canada to other countries.

Re: Mysterious Drop in Sales

Moving the shipping charge tab was not a good move

I fail to see who is helped by this.

Something we will have to add to devon@ebay  Chat this month.

More important that Visits/Views/ Watchers is whether your sales are better or worse than September and October 2023/2022/2019 (ignoring the pandemic surge in online sales).

Re: Mysterious Drop in Sales

You know it's been slow on eBay when:

  • You haven't refilled your paper tray in ages and the cover needs to be dusted
  • You go your local post office and formal introductions have to be done all over
  •
