We are new to eBay.ca, and I just have a quick question.
When putting an item up for sale that we will be shipping in an Envelope, I enter the dimensions and weight, and the shipping cost for a pack of stickers is coming up as $11 and up. The package weighs like 5oz, and is in a Poly Envelope. But when I enter the information its giving me a shipping cost that seems unreasonable. Is there a way to select that we are using an Envelope to decrease the cost of the shipping?

Hello,
Check website: Canada Post.ca find a rate. As you are selling stickers {printed material} you can ship them worldwide as oversized mail up to certain weight limits. The site has envelope size and weight calculator you can determine shipping costs to Canada/USA/ Internationally for much less than The $11.00 you stated. I don't believe you can purchase this service thru PP. Also you may find that a photo-mailer out of cardboard will offer good protection for your items/
Hope this helps

Use a flat rate instead of calculated shipping. Calculated shipping will only give you a parcel rate. If your package dimensions will fit the lettermail or oversize lettermail standards you can figure out the price on the CP site and charge based on the weight of your package. You might also want to include extra cost for the packing materials etc. When you are using a flat rate you don't need to enter dimensions or weight.
I would suggest that you ship to the U.S. too as there are 10 times the amount of buyers there. Technically, when you ship outside of Canada you are not supposed to use lettermail for merchandise, only for documents that are not merchandise. You could use light packet USA which is one flat price throughout the U.S. based on weight. I do think that many people still use lettermail for items that look like they could be documents but that is against Canada Post's rules. I don't know how stringent Canada Post is about that rule.

Use flat rate shipping (not calculated).
As long as the item is less than 2cm thick you can send as O/S lettermail or light packet.
Light packet can be bought through paypal shipping.
Lettermail can not be bought online, you have to add your own stamps (or let the postal outlet do it for you).
Canada Post works best with grams, not ounces. 5oz would be around 140g.
-.-
Canada
101-200g .. 2.95 - Lettermail (using stamps)
USA
101-200g .. 5.15 - Lettermail (stamps)
000-200g .. 5.70 - Light Packet
International
000-200g .. 8.78 - Light Packet

Here is a link to the PDF version of the manual, it has all the rates in it.... (click on business prices assuming you have venture one)

To figure out your rate code go here and put your postal code in:

Don't use Imperial measures.
Canada Post went metric in 1974 and any other numbers will be guesswork.
Since rates change on the centimetre and the gram, and rates can double after the tipping point, you could find yourself in financial trouble.
You can buy metric digital scales at Canadian Tire. Mine is a Starfrit, measures up to five kilos and cost less than $20. Excellent investment.

You really have to change that silly $10.59 shipping cost for those stickers. Put the stickers in a regular envelope and put stamps on the envelope. as follows:
to Canada
up to 30g = $0.85
31g-50g =$1.20
51g-100g =$1.80
to USA
up to 30g = $1.20
31g-50g =$1.80
51g-100g =$2.95

The advice about light packet is bad advice. These stickers are not going to sell at ridiculous shipping prices.

Is there a way to change the shipping price on an individual item that we have up? The only thing I have been able to change is the shipping option from by Dimension and Weight to a Flat Rate but it warns that it will change the shipping on every item we have. I'm sure these are super beginner questions, but I am a super beginner and trying to get a better understanding of It all.
How would I go about letting eBay know I'm using an envelope for one item, and a parcel for another? The Dimension option is putting shipping to an outrageous price, but the Flat Rate id like to use for our small items will be much too low for items like "Travel Bags and Complete Skateboards. If I cannot change the shipping costs for an individual item, is it wise to increase the price of said item a few bucks and just put on FREE SHIPPING to everything?

Despite the fact that I'm a "stamp guy", I ship lots of stuff in boxes from Bankers boxes sized boxes down to pizza style boxes.
Everything I sell is sold using flat rate shipping (standard international shipping).
I happen to be a free shipping kinda guy, so I build the shipping into the price.
If one happens not to be a free shipping kind of person, one can use a flat rate shipping number that tends to work for the majority of customers (you can use the rate tables I provided earlier to know the maximum shipping cost for the box you would use).

When you click on revise and try to change the shipping cost on that one item it gives you the message about changing all shipping?
If so, perhaps you are using business policies and are using one policy for all of your listings. I don't use business policies but if you do, you would probably have to create a new one for that particular listing.
