I a new seller and registered on eBay for the first time.  The item I have listed does not start until Monday, October 7, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. and ends on October 14, 2021, same local time. I am unable to remove the link to my chequing account for automatic debits.  This is the only active account, don't have a Paypal account.  What other options do I have?  Can I pay by check instead of the pre-authorized method?

With managed payments you need the account linked to be able to sell.  When you have a sale, the Ebay fees will be deducted from the sale amount so  only the net amount will be deposited directly into that account.   It is highly unlikely that Ebay would need to access your account to withdraw funds, perhaps if there is a refund due.

Paying by cheque is not an option.  If you think about it, there are millions of sellers and if they wanted to pay be cheque it would be a logistical nightmare.   Not to mention the bounced cheques that are inevitable.

I would also recommend finding some cheapo items from a big seller that you can see leaves feedback for buyers.  The big guys from China, etc. have that automated and it show up right away.  Find some free shipping q-tips or elastics, whatever.  It is just to get rid of the big 0 in your feedback when you are trying to sell.

For your first sales, keep it to lower value items to start.  It takes a bit of time to build up a track record and feedback score as a seller, and you get to learn the ins and outs without to much risk.

October 7th isn't a Monday!

And don't use Auctions.

EBAy shuttles naive new sellers into that unpopular format because most experienced sellers (over 85%) use FixedPrice.

Because the rate of Unpaid Items is so high with Auctions (because they are not popular with the immediate gratification buyer of 2021) many of those Fixed Price listings are also Immediate Payment Required.

EBay is rapidly moving away from Paypal for seller accounts. It is still possible to use it as a buyer.

The current payment processing system is called Managed Payments and while implementation has been something of a fecal exhibition, there it is.

You will need a Canadian chequing account attached to your Canadian selling account to recieve transfers of customer payments. You can choose to have those weekly or daily. You can also choose to receive payments in loonies or in a USdollar account - but it still must be a Canadian bank and a chequing account.

Your alternative for any extra ebay debits is a credit card. Set up as "Preferred for selling costs"

https://ppcapp.ebay.ca/myppc/wallet/list

You could modify your listing before it starts to remove any extra features that cost money when you list. That way your bank account will not be charged when your listing becomes active.
