My guess is that it is scanned because it is going through the US.  I don't think that is the norm?

Small Packet International is not a tracked service.

But USPS sometimes to often will pick up the bookkeeping bar code on a Canada Post package and treat it as a tracking code.

And sometimes it doesn't.

The postal system uses a spoke and hub delivery model, and finds the most efficient way to move the mail, which is sometimes counter-intuitive.

That a parcel from Calgary skips the COVID riddled Gateway plant and is sent to Europe by way of New York is interesting but not really surprising in the big picture.

Not normally or in 15 years of using CP with eBay. The standard with CP is to route the most direct way. That would be via Montreal and Air to UK. Beyond from there, normally through Gatwick or Heathrow to Frankfurt...Could have been a lack direct flight issue. More sorts involved the greater the risk for delays and/or additional customs processing. The perils of spoke and wheel. It would be like booking a flight from Calgary to Hong Kong and having to route through Toronto.

As a side note, if you used someone like DHL it would get routed through their hub in Dayton. Fedex would process through Memphis. Purolator(past experience) / CP would/should go through directly through a Canadian gateway. Normally Toronto/Mtl.

Anyone ever used tracking to Australia and viewed the scans? Only have used Small Packet Air in the past.
